Your responsibilities As a sign language teacher, your starting point is to work with planning, teaching, evaluation, and value-based education based on the curriculum. You are a sign language teacher but have colleagues in the office who teach other subjects. As a teacher, you collaborate with guardians, colleagues, and others in the school to achieve higher learning goals and create the best conditions for each student. You base your work on the student group you meet and are expected to create varied and challenging instruction. Using digital tools is a natural part of your teaching. You promote collegial learning through discussion and reflection at both planned and spontaneous occasions. To support student learning, as well as your own and the school's development, you make use of different professionals' experiences and knowledge. Your workplace Katedralskolan is Linköping's oldest high school, and we value both tradition and development while offering modern education. Katedralskolan has 1,300 students. We have approximately 125 employees in total, including one position as a sign language teacher. The school also has a counselor, school psychologist, school nurses, special education teacher, career counselor, librarians, and custodians on site. The teaching staff is experienced, and we have well-established processes where we welcome learning and supporting each other even though teaching occurs in different subjects. We also collaborate with other high schools in Linköping. Our teaching is student-centered and based on building trust and relationships with students. All students should encounter openness and tolerance in their studies and be trained in creativity, initiative, and personal responsibility. We equip our students with academic and interpersonal skills they need to work and live in our globalized world. The school has an international profile through well-established foreign contacts, including student exchanges with other countries, comprehensive language instruction, and various collaboration projects between languages and other subjects. Teaching during the 2026/2027 school year takes place on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. About you First and foremost, we are looking for someone with teacher certification and authorization to teach sign language at the high school level. Secondly, we are looking for someone with completed teacher education for high school where you are expected to obtain authorization in sign language. Alternatively, you are near the end of your education to become a high school teacher of sign language. It is a requirement that you have experience working in curriculum-based schools through internships or as an employee, or alternatively have other experience teaching sign language. It is an advantage if you have taught in high school for at least one school year. It is also an advantage if you have experience with grading or have documented student learning during the school year. In your role as a high school teacher, you have good knowledge of the school's mission and are well-acquainted with the curriculum (Gy11/Gy25) and other governing documents. You have good communication skills in spoken and written Swedish. This is because according to the curriculum (Gy11/Gy25), you should organize and conduct your work so that students receive support in their language and communication development, and documentation in Swedish is part of the assignment. As a teacher, you are a good role model. You have the ability to adapt your instruction to students and let them participate in shaping the teaching. In a quality-conscious manner, you create good conditions for student development and learning and document it.
