The administration currently consists of approximately 115 employees and conducts operations within building permits, detailed planning, surveying, map production, GIS, strategic urban planning, land and development, and environmental and climate issues. The administration also has two support functions: the finance function and the HR function. With more than 114,000 residents, Borås is Sweden's thirteenth largest municipality and is large enough for a broad range of entertainment, culture, and services. At the same time, everything is within convenient reach. The good location and the university in the city center make Borås attractive for both residents and businesses. With well-developed public transportation, Borås is connected to Gothenburg and Jönköping as one labor market region. Much positive development has happened in Borås, and many major challenges remain, which the Urban Development Administration has an important role in addressing.
About the Operations
As a GIS Engineer, you will be part of the Geodata Department, where we are 16 employees who produce and manage geographic information used throughout the urban development process. Our customers are found within Borås City, in municipal companies, and among citizens and businesses operating in the municipality.
Job Duties
As a GIS Engineer with us, you will be part of the department's GIS group and have a central role in developing and managing the municipality's geographic information. You will work broadly with everything from system management to data processing, analysis, and automation of workflows. In this role, you combine technology, analysis, and societal value in varied work where you contribute to creating value for both the operations and the municipality's residents.
Your main responsibilities:
System management and development of the municipality's web maps
Database management, data processing, and quality assurance of geographic information
Automation of GIS-related workflows
Conduction of geographic analyses to support decision-making
Drive and participate in implementing new functions and systems
Process and make geographic information accessible for different audiences
Provide operations-related support, training, and advice to map users within the municipality
Contribute to further development of an internal GIS user forum to capture needs and promote knowledge exchange throughout the entire municipal organization
