Job Description
As an employee of the City Development Administration in Vaxholm Municipality, you will influence the development of an attractive archipelago community. Together, we are responsible for the entire urban development process – from planning new residential areas and developing public transportation to the operation and maintenance of streets, parks, schools, and other important municipal services. We are now seeking a Street Engineer. With us, you will have the opportunity to develop in your role while having close contact with both colleagues and managers. We value collaboration, engagement, and a willingness to continuously improve our operations. The City Development Administration's implementation area consists of three units. As a street engineer, you will become an important part of the Public Spaces unit, where you work alongside six dedicated colleagues with responsibility for streets, parks, traffic, and other public environments. You report directly to the unit manager for Public Spaces.
Street spaces, bridges, and public facilities are an important part of Vaxholm's development. As a street engineer, you therefore have a broad area of responsibility that includes planning, budgeting, implementation, and development of the city's public spaces, as well as ensuring compliance with legal requirements for the existing infrastructure.
You work closely with land, park, and traffic colleagues and play a central role in creating attractive, safe, and well-functioning public environments. The role involves both strategic and operational work in a client role with responsibility for operation and maintenance issues, while also participating in the design and implementation of infrastructure projects. The position also involves regularly following up on operations in the field and managing many contact points, both internally and externally.
In this recruitment process, we are collaborating with Randstad, where recruitment consultant Hannah Sandström answers questions about the position, [email protected], note that response times may be longer than usual due to the summer period. Selection and interviews will begin from week 34.
Responsibilities
Overall operational responsibility for Vaxholm Municipality's street matters, which includes operation and investment budgets, planning and agreements for streets, roads, bicycle and pedestrian paths, parking areas and associated facilities and structures, such as culverts and bridges.
Responsible for traffic flow within the city's road area. This includes ordering, coordinating, and monitoring winter road maintenance, street cleaning, and ongoing maintenance for street operations.
Design, project management, and monitoring of projects within the operational area.
Work with maintenance planning in the city's maintenance plan within your operational area.
Conduct site visits, inspections, and follow-ups in the field. Handling of excavation permits and final inspections.
Process and present matters for the board and other political forums, and prepare official reports, decision documents, and statements. Review and respond to referrals within your operational area.
Provide advice, information, and service to residents, businesses, and other stakeholders in the municipality.
Work closely with colleagues in lighting, parks, land leasing, sports, and traffic, and participate in urban development projects.
Work proactively with operational development, including monitoring of procedures and improvements to work processes.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is responsible, structured, and self-directed. You find it easy to build good relationships and thrive in a role with many contact points. Since the position involves handling both strategic issues and operational tasks, you need to be solution-oriented, flexible, and have a good ability to prioritize. You appreciate collaboration while feeling comfortable independently driving issues and projects forward.
Have an engineering degree with a focus on urban development or similar technical education.
Have experience working within streets, infrastructure, facilities, or public environments.
Have knowledge of contracts.
Have good administrative skills and experience working with decision documents and documentation.
We would like to see that you have professional experience in corresponding work tasks.
Communicate well in Swedish, both verbally and in writing.
Hold a class B driver's license.
Merits
Experience and knowledge of municipal administration, public procurement law, and GIS.
Experience and knowledge of operational work within roads, land, or water/wastewater.
Experience working in a client role and/or in implementation.
