At the heart of events stands JMG, the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication. The department is located at the Faculty of Social Sciences at University of Gothenburg and is one of the Nordic region's most renowned institutions in its field, with breadth and depth in both research and education. At JMG, teaching is conducted at bachelor's and advanced levels, as well as doctoral education.
JMG is now seeking guest lecturers for intermittent employment (hourly positions) for the upcoming academic year Fall 2026/Spring 2027.
Guest lecturers are sought to ensure education in close contact with the industry, but also to strengthen staffing during regular staff absences. JMG is seeking guest lecturers for bachelor's and master's programs in journalism, for standalone journalism courses, and for bachelor's and master's programs in media and communication science.
During the upcoming academic year, we have a need for guest lecturers in the following areas:
supervision and examination of thesis projects
automated methods for collecting and analyzing media content data with application in media and communication science
strategic communication from a scientific and applied perspective, preferably with a special focus on the nonprofit sector
news media's structural conditions and prerequisites for editorial work in digital media culture
editorial work and journalism's narrative forms in digital channels
Duties
The duties of a guest lecturer may consist of various forms of teaching, lectures, workshops, seminars, or supervision in journalism, media, and communication. Primarily at bachelor's level, but advanced level may also occur.
Qualifications
You are expected to have teaching experience such as lectures, workshops, seminars, or supervision, and to have your own experience and education in journalism, media, and communication, or another subject area relevant to JMG.
For teaching in journalism education, you are expected to have good knowledge of publishing and ethical issues.
For teaching in media and communication science, we would like you to have a doctoral degree in a relevant subject.
Beyond this, great emphasis is placed on administrative competence and the ability to structure teaching or supervision. You are expected to have good communication skills in speech and writing in Swedish and/or English, depending on the current course's language of instruction. Beyond skills assessment, great emphasis is placed on personal suitability and cooperation skills. We will primarily consider applicants who, in an overall assessment, are considered to have the best prerequisites for carrying out the described duties.
Employment
Intermittent employment, number of hours by agreement. Work may take place during the period August 24, 2026—June 30, 2027.
With an intermittent employment, an agreement is written that constitutes a framework agreement for the entire period. You then choose to accept or decline assignments where work is offered. Each work assignment constitutes a new employment relationship. Worked hours are reported to the employer through the GU/Hourly Fee form.
