The Department of Global Public Health is an interdisciplinary institution aimed at promoting knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in local, national, and global contexts. Many researchers at the department serve as scientific advisors to authorities and other decision-makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master's programs and researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. The department has 12 research groups, approximately 120 doctoral students, and approximately 140 employees.
We are seeking a full-time Research Specialist for a time-limited position of 12 months with the research group Epidemiology for Psychiatric Conditions, Substance Use and Social Environment (EPiCSS) at Karolinska Institutet. We would appreciate if you are at the beginning of your academic career.
Subject Description
You will primarily work in the LIV project "The Importance of Lifestyle for Health," a large prospective longitudinal cohort study that includes adults with alcohol use disorder. The project aims to study long-term outcomes following addiction treatment and the importance of changes in alcohol use and other lifestyle factors for health. The project will contribute to developing and improving health care for people with alcohol use disorder and increase understanding of how lifestyle factors affect health in the long term.
Your Role
The Research Specialist will play a central role in bringing projects to completion by preparing data, conducting and refining statistical analyses, updating literature reviews, strengthening interpretation, and contributing to the preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts. This role offers a unique opportunity to deepen engagement with studies at various stages of completion, develop strong analytical and scientific writing skills, and make concrete contributions to high-impact research within a relatively short timeframe. The Research Specialist will work under the supervision of the principal investigator and in collaboration with other members of the project team.
Responsibilities include:
Data management of clinical and registry-based data
Conduct quantitative statistical analyses, and where applicable, qualitative analyses
Support interpretation and contextualization of research results
Assist with literature reviews and updating/synthesizing relevant literature
Contribute to preparation, revision, and submission of scientific manuscripts and presentations
Review and organize existing project materials, including statistical code, data, and manuscript drafts
Update and refine statistical analyses of longitudinal data
Conduct data quality control of complex datasets
Support documentation and reproducibility of analytical workflows
Assist with preparation and coordination of competitive research proposals
Start Date: As soon as possible.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible to be employed as a Research Specialist is someone who has demonstrated scientific competence and holds a doctoral degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, and has documented research work after dissertation.
For this position, you must have:
Doctoral degree in public health, global health, or a related field
Fluent knowledge of English in speech and writing
Knowledge of statistical software (R and/or Stata)
Experience with quantitative data analysis and data management
Interest in clinical alcohol research and substance use epidemiology
Documented experience in academic writing, preferably related to research grants or scientific publications
Assessment Criteria
It is meritorious if the applicant has demonstrated
Good knowledge of Swedish, in speech and writing
Experience with mixed methods and/or qualitative data analysis
