Job Responsibilities
Hultgren Laboratory is a KTH infrastructure that is open to students and researchers from universities, institutes, and industry. It offers a comprehensive set of instruments for sample preparation, materials characterization, and measurement of material properties. Although the facility offers measurement services, it is primarily designed for researchers' independent use, where after appropriate training, they can use the tools and instruments themselves. Most of the research conducted at the laboratory is focused on metallic materials, but the equipment is also well-suited for studying a broad spectrum of other solid materials, such as ceramics, polymers, semiconductors, composites, and biomaterials.
The overall goal of Hultgren Laboratory is to enable high-quality and meaningful materials research and education by offering reliable, accessible, and state-of-the-art experimental resources. A central part of this mission is to promote an efficient and well-functioning user environment that supports both scientific excellence and collaboration between academia and industry.
The unit responsible for Hultgren Laboratory also plans and conducts educational activities, including undergraduate courses, where materials characterization forms an important part of the education.
The Research Engineer will evaluate how more laboratory-based learning activities can be integrated into undergraduate education, with a focus on materials characterization and measurement of material properties.
