Would you like to contribute to high-quality medical research?
The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions conducting both research and education. The department is involved in advanced research in both basic and applied research. All divisions conduct their activities in close contact with clinics at Karolinska University Hospital.
Your Assignment
During fall 2026, we will conduct physical testing in a cohort of retired Swedish men and women. The aim is to increase knowledge about sarcopenia, and therefore we will perform advanced examinations of muscles and the nervous system. You will be responsible for examining the number of motor units (Motor Unit Number Estimation, MUNE) using MScanFit, as well as performing high-resolution electromyography (HD-EMG) to measure the electrical activity of muscles. You will also serve as a backup for other tests in the study (Biodex, max VO2, force plate usage). You will also conduct subsequent analyses of the test results.
Who Are You?
To be eligible for the position, you must have a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology and a master's degree (or be a master's student) in a relevant field of study.
We are seeking a candidate with documented experience performing MScanFit and HD-EMG methodology on humans. Previous experience testing physical function with Biodex and force plate as well as maximal oxygen uptake testing is also required. You must also master common statistical analyses, biosignal analysis, and have experience with statistical software such as R or SPSS. Since the work involves contact with and testing of older individuals, personal suitability is of utmost importance and a requirement. You should have a strong scientific interest, good ability to collaborate with both research participants and colleagues, be able to work effectively in a team, and have excellent ability to communicate in English.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities, knowledge and skills, as well as documented previous experience.
