The Department of Psychology is seeking a researcher to work on the LETS Study – Long-Term Effects of Early Parenting Support. The Department of Psychology has over 130 employees and conducts extensive educational and research activities in collaboration with the surrounding community. The research conducted is assessed by international reviewers as very good, and the demand for our programs has been high for many years. See http://www.gu.se/psykologi for more information. Research Area To reduce health inequalities and promote a good start in life, Gothenburg City and the Västra Götaland Region have implemented the parenting support program Extended Home Visits according to the Rinkeby Model. The program is offered in prioritized areas to first-time parents and to parents who have other children but are having their first child in Sweden. The home visiting program is part of a family-centered approach and is conducted by teams consisting of nurses from child health care and parenting support staff – preventive social workers employed by social services or Angered Community Hospital. The program complements the regular child health care program and provides families with six home visits during the child's first 15 months. Previous studies have examined the implementation of the program in Gothenburg and its short-term effects for parents and children. The current research project constitutes a long-term follow-up that aims to examine the effects and experiences of the program over time. The study follows children and parents until the children are five years old and focuses on long-term outcomes regarding children's health and development, parents' trust in health care and other societal actors, and perceived parenting competence. The project also includes a health economic analysis. Duties As a researcher in the project, you will have a central role in driving and coordinating one of the sub-studies within the research project. The work includes planning and conducting a survey study with parents at child health centers and family centers in prioritized areas in Gothenburg. You will collaborate with professionals in both child health care and preventive social services, and have direct contact with parents speaking different languages with varying levels of literacy. Collaboration with interpreters also occurs. The position further includes processing and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data, writing scientific reports and articles, and overall responsibility for the administrative management of the sub-study. Qualifications To be eligible for employment, you must have a doctorate in psychology. The position requires excellent skills in Excel and SPSS as well as documented experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Excellent knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, is required, as is good knowledge of Somali and/or Arabic. You must also have previous experience working with parents and small children in health care or social services. Additionally, documented experience in starting up operations, designing routines, managing projects, and handling administration in research activities or similar is required. It is meritorious if you hold Swedish psychology credentials and have documented experience in project management or leadership of research groups in developmental psychology research projects. Current knowledge in developmental psychology, particularly with focus on early development and health-promoting and preventive interventions for children and parents, is considered particularly meritorious. Selection Process When selecting qualified applicants, the candidate will be chosen who, after a comprehensive assessment of competence and development potential, is deemed to have the best qualifications to carry out the work described above. Additionally, personal qualities such as planning ability, independence, and communication skills will be considered. The selection process may include interviews and reference checks. These steps will, if applicable, also form the basis for the assessment.
