Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. We have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our drive to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's living conditions. Workplace Description The Division of Atomic Physics at the Department of Physics at Lund University has a staff of approximately 50 researchers, including visiting researchers and doctoral students. Research at the division is primarily based on the use of advanced laser sources, ranging from diode lasers to terawatt lasers at the High-Power Laser Laboratory. Research areas include interactions between intense laser fields and matter, attosecond science, quantum information, solid-state X-ray spectroscopy, laser applications in medicine and biology, as well as industrial applications. The announced position is connected to the Attosecond Physics group and more specifically to a team working on developments in ultrafast optics and the generation of attosecond pulses. More information is available at www.attolund.se. What We Offer Lund University is a state authority, which means you receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favorable occupational pension. Read more on the university's website about working with us: Jobba hos oss Duties and Responsibilities As a researcher, your work will primarily involve conducting research. Teaching may also be part of your responsibilities, but no more than one-fifth of your working time. The purpose of the employment is to develop your independence as a researcher and create conditions for further professional advancement. The employment is proposed around the following project: Manipulation and Characterization of Ultrashort Laser Pulses for Harmonic Generation and Its Applications. The project focuses on generating ultrashort laser pulses, for example using nonlinear techniques for pulse post-compression, their detailed characterization in the temporal and spatiotemporal domains, and their manipulation in space and time, with the goal of developing new methods for controlling higher-order harmonic generation and applications of attosecond pulses. Duties include: Operation and development of femtosecond laser systems Development of pulse characterization methods Advanced nonlinear optics Generation of attosecond pulses Potential collaboration with industrial partners Exploration of applications for the developed sources Duties also include supervision of thesis students and doctoral candidates. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a researcher, you must have a doctorate degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctorate, in the subject area of the position. Documentation of meeting the eligibility requirement must be submitted no later than when the employment decision is made. Requirements for the position are: Completed doctoral degree in physics Very good English language skills, both spoken and written Theoretical and practical experience in ultrafast optics and nonlinear optics Meritorious for the position: This position is intended as an initial step in a research career, and the evaluation of applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as a researcher. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific competence within the subject area. The following will form the basis for evaluation: Strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research Experience in pulse characterization Practical experience with femtosecond lasers and/or harmonic generation in gases Works well in a team Teaching experience Other skills, such as instrument programming, data analysis, vacuum technology, optical and mechanical design Consideration will be given to how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen research within the division/department and contribute to its future development. Other Information The position as researcher is a special fixed-term employment at 100% for the period 2026-11-01 to 2027-10-31. Researchers are covered by "local collective agreement on annual working hours for researchers and research associates." Planning of annual working hours occurs in dialogue between supervisor and employee. How to Apply The application must be written in English and should include a CV including a list of publications, a personal letter explaining your interest in the position and how the position matches your research qualifications. The application should also include a copy of your doctoral degree or equivalent, as well as anything else you wish to include (copies of grades, reference contact information, recommendation letters, etc.). We look forward to receiving your application! LTH – Lund Institute of Technology – is part of Lund University. At LTH, we educate people, build knowledge for the future, and work hard to develop society. We create space for brilliant research and inspire creative development of technology, architecture, and design. Approximately 12,000 students study here. Every year, our researchers – many of whom work in world-leading research profile areas – publish around 100 dissertations and 2,000 scientific articles. A number of research results and student projects are developed into innovations. Together, we explore and create – for the benefit of the world. The Department of Physics is one of Lund University's largest departments with approximately 400 employees. The department has seven research divisions and several major research centers.
