The Department of Clinical Sciences is one of six departments at Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg. The department conducts research and education that focuses on human health and quality of life. We represent 16 different subject areas (divisions) and are organized into four sections. Through enriching collaboration with healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefit both care and research. At the Division of Medical Radiation Physics, research is conducted in most branches of medical physics, such as dosimetry, detectors and measurement techniques, radiobiology and radiation protection; as well as applications in radioecology, radiation protection preparedness, nuclear medicine (diagnostics and therapy), X-ray, MRI, and radiation therapy (external and brachytherapy). The researcher will work in a research group focused on dosimetry in radiation therapy. The group has been established in this field for several years and consists mainly of medical physicists but also involves oncologists for more direct clinical questions or assessments. Currently there is one doctoral student in the group. Adjunct Professor Anna Bäck and PhD Fredrik Nordström will be the two people who will work most closely with the newly hired researcher. Duties The work will include simulations of variations that occur during radiation therapy to study the effect of these variations as well as calculations of various types of complexity measures for clinical radiation therapy plans. The work will therefore involve a considerable amount of programming and software development. The work consists mainly of theoretical analyses but certain dosimetric measurements in clinical radiation fields will also be included in the work. Dose planning is also part of the work. Qualifications Eligible for employment is someone who holds a doctoral degree in radiation therapy and has a basic degree in physics. Experience with dose planning for radiation therapy and dosimetric measurements in clinical radiation fields from external radiation therapy equipment as well as strong programming skills are required. Research experience in the field of complexity of radiation therapy plans and dosimetric uncertainties in external radiation therapy is desirable. The applicant should be able to work in a structured manner, both independently and as part of a team. Accuracy and the ability to collaborate and take own initiatives are important qualities. The applicant should have very good writing and communication skills in Swedish and English. Employment The employment is a fixed-term position for 9 months at part-time, 40% of full-time, with placement at the Division of Medical Radiation Physics at the Department of Clinical Sciences.
