At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and education are conducted across large areas of knowledge - from molecule to human. The department consists of five sections: Pharmacology, Physiology, Health and Rehabilitation, Clinical Neuroscience, and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a researcher, positioned at the Section for Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. The Section for Psychiatry and Neurochemistry offers world-leading translational research spanning cell and animal models to clinical studies and extensive epidemiological studies. Successful research is conducted here in areas including bipolar disorder, addiction medicine, aging, neurochemistry, and forensic psychiatry. The Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine is a newly established centre at Gothenburg University that supports molecular and translational medicine and represents an initiative to strengthen life science in Western Sweden. In combination with the newly opened Image and Intervention Centre at Sahlgrenska Hospital, excellent resources will be offered for advanced research projects in medical imaging. Responsibilities An important task for the applicant will be to contribute to ongoing research activities, both conceptually and methodologically. The person is expected to take an active role particularly in our work on brain imaging and to apply and develop advanced image analysis methods. Furthermore, there are opportunities to initiate individual research projects based on the person's interests. The successful candidate should demonstrate a high level of responsibility and independence as well as the ability to work in a team and willingness to mentor students. Additionally, the candidate is expected to have broad knowledge and expertise in aging research and dementia, image analysis, and manuscript writing. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a researcher, you must hold a PhD in Neuroscience, Medical Research, Biomedical Engineering, or similar. We are seeking a person with experience in brain imaging (MRI and PET) in healthy aging and Alzheimer's disease research. The candidate should be able to perform advanced image data processing/analysis. Previous experience working with machine learning and advanced statistical methods is mandatory. Experience in research on both aging and Alzheimer's disease is highly valued. Social skills and ability to collaborate are very important since the applicant will be working with other members of the research group and collaborating partners. Employment The position is a fixed-term employment for 6 months, 100% full-time, positioned for the time being at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology.
