About the Position The Department of Urban Areas, Welfare and Leisure organizes activities with the primary mission of strengthening democracy, preventing problems, and promoting wellbeing close to our residents. We offer activities and meeting places that can contribute to meaningful leisure time and strengthen public health. Many aspects of the department's mission are conducted in collaboration with other actors within the City of Gothenburg, civil society, and the region. The department consists of nine units, one of which is School as an Arena. The unit currently consists of eleven coordinators and one coordinator. The overarching goal of the School as an Arena approach is to make Gothenburg a more equitable city by creating a good start in life and good growing conditions for children and young people. School as an Arena is an effort to make a number of school facilities in the city accessible before and after school hours, creating safe and positive meeting places with health-promoting activities for and with those living in the area. Schools serve as hubs in the neighborhood where residents can come and participate in, or lead, various activities. The work takes place in school areas where the parties jointly see a need to do more together. The department will continue to strengthen work in neighborhood engagement and area development. As a unit manager, you have responsibility for personnel, budget, work environment, and operations. You are part of the management team together with other unit managers and report to the department manager. Within the administration, there is also collaborative work where we have divided ourselves into different target areas to increase capacity for action between units and departments. In the urban area, you help develop work around children and young people in terms of meaningful leisure, good growing conditions, and early interventions based on the Social Services Act. You will be part of a network consisting of other unit managers within the City of Gothenburg. Your immediate manager strives for leadership characterized by collaboration, participation, and a developmental focus. Together with other unit managers, you will have an important role in developing the department. As a unit manager, you lead through trust-based leadership, but there is also a need to establish structure and maintain decisions. It is important to be able to set goals, direction, and develop the unit's role in relation to other units in the administration. Since Northeast has several areas that are socioeconomically disadvantaged, collaboration around children and young people's growing conditions, an equitable city, and safety work are important areas for development. Qualifications For this position, we are looking for someone with previous experience in a management role with responsibility for budget, personnel, and operations. You have a university degree in social sciences or another university degree that the employer deems equivalent. It is important that you have good analytical skills, strong ability to express yourself orally and in writing, and significant commitment to societal issues. It is meritorious to have experience working with complex societal challenges and large-scale collaboration processes. In your professional role, you work systematically, in an organized manner, and methodically. You have the ability to transform overarching goals into concrete actions and thereby create direction for the operations. With a focus on the goal, you can reprioritize work when circumstances or needs change. You monitor and report results and goal achievement. You enjoy meeting with others and have a good ability to create positive relationships and develop relevant collaborations. You are a clear communicator who, by bringing enthusiasm and energy, commands attention for your thoughts and ideas. By listening and showing interest in those you meet, you create participation and a good collaborative climate. At the same time, you are action-oriented and comfortable making decisions and acting on them. As a unit manager, you have the ability to balance goals and assignments with an economic perspective. You strive to use existing resources as efficiently as possible. To feel secure in the role, you need to have experience with and understanding of the conditions in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas.
