The City Building Office has approximately 340 employees and we are centrally located on Kungsholmen, about a ten-minute walk from Stockholm Central Station. The administration's activities are characterized by our core values of professionalism, comprehensive perspective, and inclusiveness. The Planning Division is in an exciting phase of development. With a new planning director and a new organizational structure, we are creating even better conditions to meet the city's opportunities and challenges and strengthen our operations based on the city's vision and goals. As of September 1st, the division consists of five geographical detailed planning units, a strategy and development unit, and a planning staff. Now we are looking for a unit manager who wants to lead the Northern Inner City and Skarpnäck area and contribute to the unit's and division's continued work. The Planning Division plays a key role in the city's growth and renewal. We work across the full spectrum, from comprehensive and strategic planning to detailed planning. Right now we are developing a new comprehensive plan with a view toward 2060, while simultaneously leading hundreds of detailed planning projects where we strengthen Stockholm as a home, capital, and world-class city by acting professionally, inclusively, and with a comprehensive perspective. We collaborate closely with other administrations, authorities, businesses, and the city's residents to create sustainable and feasible solutions for Stockholm's continued development. Through shared learning, competence development, and teamwork, we develop together. Your role The task is to lead a unit focused on detailed planning to manage and shape the Stockholm of the future. With stockholmers at the center, we contribute to a capital with good architecture and feasibility in new construction, renovations, and development. Your unit consists of 15 employees who work on a wide variety of projects – from smaller assignments to complex urban development projects – in areas with both strong development potential and valuable cultural environments of national interest. These locations are significant not only for stockholmers but for the entire country. To be successful in the role of unit manager, you need to be a confident leader with a very strong ability to create engagement and participation and to coach your employees toward the unit's established goals. In the role, you have operational, personnel, and budget responsibility. This means you are responsible for: - creating value for stockholmers through detailed planning based on political goals, with a focus on quality, time, and cost - leading, allocating, and following up on the unit's work and ensuring quality and goal achievement - leading and developing employees through active leadership with responsibility for work environment, competence development, compensation, and collaboration - developing efficient working methods and collaborating with managers within the division, office, and other administrations. You are part of the planning division's management group and contribute to the entire division's operations, development, and goal achievement. The management group exists to lead, inspire, and coordinate the organization to achieve established goals and visions both in the short and long term. Your competence and experience To succeed in the assignment, you need a genuine interest in leadership, good comprehensive perspective, and the ability to see long-term consequences in urban development, as well as an understanding of market and real estate economics. We are looking for someone who has: - completed higher academic education such as architect, physical planner, or equivalent specialization that the employer deems relevant for the position - current and several years of experience working with urban development in a major city environment - current and formal work experience leading others as a manager - good understanding of various stakeholders' roles in the urban development process - very strong ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish as this is a requirement in daily work It is meritorious if you have: - work experience in both politically governed organizations and the private sector - experience in driving development work regarding portfolio management, digitalization, and new working methods within similar operations We base our search on Stockholm's City management profile and are therefore looking for you with the following competencies: As a manager and leader at the City Building Office, you understand your role well and ensure the best interests of the entire operation in your actions and decisions. The work requires a very strong ability to collaborate and you relate and communicate with others in a responsive and flexible manner. Finally, you possess a high degree of professionalism and act with good judgment in your contact with managers, employees, and customers.
