Unit Manager for Youth Care Services
Statens Institutionsstyrelse · Full-time
F, Hässleholm, Sweden
The Swedish National Board of Institutional Care (SiS) is a government agency responsible for individually tailored involuntary care for adolescents with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse. SiS also carries out closed youth care. We do this at youth homes and facilities for adults with substance abuse throughout the country. At SiS, your working life becomes an exciting challenge. Regardless of where in our organization you work or what position you hold, you help create vital change. SiS Youth Home Hässleholm is a secure institution with two intake and assessment units (MBB), four treatment units, and one open unit at our satellite facility Karlsvik in Höör, plus TFCO which is an aftercare program. During 2027, an additional unit will open to enable a full-scale evidence-based care chain to ensure lasting change. We primarily admit school-age boys but also girls with ongoing criminal activity and in some cases substance abuse issues. SiS is in the midst of a comprehensive transformation journey where the organization is developing on multiple levels simultaneously. The agency is improving and adapting its work based on new and changing needs in both society and in its own operations. SiS knows that developing and engaged managers are a critical prerequisite for meeting today's and tomorrow's mission. The youth home in Hässleholm is also changing internally, and therefore we need a new unit manager in the operations. As a unit manager, you are responsible for leading a unit to achieve set goals and you have overall treatment responsibility for the young people living there. You ensure that common working methods are used and followed, and you support your 20 employees in their work. You ensure that your staff have the competence required for the care and treatment the unit provides and have the conditions to carry out their duties in a good and safe working environment. As a unit manager, you have operational, personnel, and budget responsibility, and you lead, plan, follow up, and refine the work on the unit. To create stable and efficient management, your unit has, in addition to you, a group leader and a treatment secretary. The group leader's primary task is to plan, coordinate, and operatively lead and distribute the daily work, and to support staff in their work. The treatment secretary is responsible for coordinating and planning care and treatment for the young people in our care. Together you form a unit team that in close collaboration leads the unit. The treatment units also have a family and network treatment worker attached who work proactively with the young people's networks and families. You are part of the institution's management group where you, together with the institution manager and your management colleagues, share responsibility for the entire operation. On-call duty is included. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has: An academic degree of at least 180 credits with a focus on social sciences, healthcare, or behavioral sciences, or another relevant academic degree. Several years of experience working in operations focused on care, treatment, and security, such as for example social services, healthcare and treatment, criminal justice, or other relevant operations. Documented current experience in a managerial role. Class B driver's license. It is meritorious if you have: Experience as a manager with operational responsibility, budget responsibility, and personnel responsibility. Experience from SiS or equivalent operations. Personal Qualities Since the operations are often event-driven, you need to be comfortable making decisions, reprioritizing, and quickly being able to change both pace and direction. You are calm and professional even in demanding situations and have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. At the same time, high demands are placed on you having a holistic perspective and being able to work in a structured and systematic way to ensure quality in care based on the agency's goals, guidelines, values, and applicable laws. You know how to prioritize and have an aptitude for setting goals and following up on results. To fit the role, we see that you take responsibility for the whole and realize SiS's vision and goals. You create conditions for good results and tackle challenges and act with courage when needed. You are a good role model and show trust in your employees' and colleagues' competence and encourage them to develop and take personal responsibility. You involve your employees in our development work and create conditions for active employee participation and a learning organization. You promote good cooperation within SiS and with other partners. You are communicative and create dialogue, participation, and engagement. At SiS, we care about good leadership. This means that as a manager and leader, you take responsibility for the whole, act as a good role model, drive development, promote good cooperation, and are clear in your communication.
