We are seeking two employees: one with a primary focus on developing partial action programs for better water in one of the county's main drainage areas, and one to develop materials for and test a new method for classifying valuable waters. These positions are for a permanent employment and a fixed-term employment respectively.
The Water Unit
You will be part of the Water Unit at the Nature Department. The unit consists of nineteen engaged employees. The unit handles water issues from a broad perspective, including water management, water supply, action coordination, liming, biodiversity, eutrophication measures, environmental monitoring and environmental goals, as well as national systems for water information. We share knowledge about the county's waters and contribute expertise both within the County Administrative Board and in society.
Work Tasks
Sweden is committed to increasing efforts through various measures to reduce eutrophication problems, restore physically affected aquatic environments, recreate wetlands, and environmentally adapt hydropower. These measures are necessary to achieve local, regional, national, and international environmental goals. The County Administrative Board in Jönköping is well ahead, but needs to step up efforts further and is therefore seeking new engaged and competent employees to strengthen our team.
We work with clear goal management and distribute work tasks among us based on expertise, interest, and opportunities. The main focus of these positions is described below, but work tasks can be adapted to your expertise and experience. You will be part of a working group, the secretariat, which works with water management and water resource planning.
Partial Action Programs and More
You will work on action planning and developing drainage area-based action programs. The work involves developing descriptions of impacts, values, ongoing action work, and prioritizing action needs in collaboration with neighboring counties, municipalities, and other actors for one or two main drainage areas in the county. You will participate in anchoring the plan and driving the implementation of environmental improvement measures in our lakes and waterways.
You will process applications for local water care projects (LOVA), review reports, assist applicants, and work to attract good applications for the right measures in the right places. Other work tasks that may become relevant include supporting the secretariat and work with the Drinking Water Directive and regional water supply plan.
Valuable Waters
You will participate in developing materials and testing a new method for classifying valuable waters. The materials will be used as a prioritization basis for protection and restoration of waters and as a knowledge base for the County Administrative Board and municipalities' handling of water-related matters. The work involves handling large amounts of data and geographic information in GIS.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a science/technical university degree or equivalent containing subjects such as biology, limnology, fishery biology, hydrology, environmental science, or ecosystem engineering.
If you have previously worked with, or have in-depth knowledge of action work in aquatic environments, water management, coordination, or project management, grant administration, or water investigations, this is a merit. Knowledge of GIS and experience handling large and complex data sets in Excel are also merits.
The position requires that you can express yourself well in Swedish, both spoken and written, and it is desirable that you have a Category B driving license.
We place great importance on your personal qualities. You will collaborate both internally and externally, which is why you need good collaboration skills. You need to be structured but also flexible as the positions will involve several different work tasks. You are conscientious, have good judgment, and are engaged in the subject matters with the ability to independently prioritize and drive work tasks to completion.
Terms
The positions are full-time; one position is permanent and one position is a fixed-term employment for approximately 6 months. We apply a 6-month probationary period as standard for our permanent positions. Start as soon as possible by agreement.
