Your Role with Us
As a teaching assistant, you will work to help and stimulate students with special support needs in learning, development, and independence both individually and in groups, using a calm and professional approach. The work involves creating a safe environment and structure for students with a focus on studies and the conditions for developing collaboration and relationships at school. You work at the direction of the responsible teacher based on the current curriculum. You support students throughout the school day in the classroom, during breaks, in the after-school program, during meals and hygiene situations, and during other activities.
The work requires constant attention, analysis, and understanding of situations both inside and outside the classroom. In close collaboration with teachers and other teaching assistants, you strive to find individual solutions so that each student can benefit from the instruction in the best way possible. Understanding each other's professional roles is of paramount importance. Contact and collaboration with guardians is an important part of the work, as is active participation in workplace development and responsibility for your own personal professional development. The work can be physically demanding and emotionally challenging.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone with one of the following:
High school diploma from a Child and Recreation program with a focus on pedagogical and social work
Completion of the Teaching Assistant vocational program within adult education or equivalent teaching assistant education from a folk high school
Degree/completion of equivalent education that the employer deems sufficiently comprehensive in pedagogy and child development and learning
Meets some of the educational requirements and has at least three years of experience as a teaching assistant
You need to understand the role of a teaching assistant, and we are looking for someone with good pedagogical skills. It is advantageous if you have experience supporting students in Swedish, mathematics, and English at the intermediate level. We prefer that you have worked as a teaching assistant for at least three years, and the ability to be responsive to students' needs is also an advantage. If you have extensive experience supporting and guiding students with ADHD, autism, and language disorders, as well as experience working with students in disadvantaged areas where Swedish is a second language, that is meriting. Knowledge of the curriculum is also meriting, as are skills with alternative communication tools such as TAKK and BLISS.
You need to be able to choose approaches within the pedagogical methods and techniques that the school uses. We also want you to have the ability to motivate, inspire, and stimulate students in their development and have a good ability to work with school-age children. You are a balanced and stable person with a professional approach and can handle situations that arise in a patient, secure, and calm manner.
To succeed in your role as a teaching assistant, it is important that you have empathy and can collaborate. You are a responsible and solution-focused person. Since the work can be physically demanding, good physical fitness is required.
To help us evaluate your application, you must attach certificates/transcripts of your completed education. When we want to offer you the position, you will need to provide a certificate from the police criminal record registry so we can employ you, in accordance with the provisions in Chapter 2, Sections 31-33 of the Education Act.
