We work to enable tomorrow's travel and transport. Our mission is of great importance to individuals, companies and society as a whole.
To meet increased demands, drive and implement necessary changes, and ensure that the agency's resources are used where they create the greatest benefit and impact, we need strong and cohesive financial management.
Do you want to lead and develop the finance function at one of Sweden's most important authorities? As Chief Economist, you will have a central role in strengthening the agency's financial management and contributing to the development of operations.
About the role
The Division of Common Functions was established on April 1, 2025 and consists of approximately 150 employees. Here we bring together the agency's enabling functions within finance, analysis, procurement, facilities, customer, communication, personnel and development. The division is in a development phase where coordination, common working methods and operational development are in focus.
The Finance Unit currently consists of approximately 25 competent, engaged and motivated employees who are responsible for financial management, operational planning, budgeting, follow-up, reporting, accounting and financial administration as well as the agency's management systems and work with internal governance and control.
As Chief Economist, you will lead the unit and have supervisory responsibility for two section heads. Together, you will be responsible for the unit's deliverables and development. You will ensure appropriate and forward-looking financial management with high quality in accounting and financial processes, and provide qualified support to management and operations.
The Swedish Transport Agency operates in a complex financial environment with both appropriation and fee-based activities, extensive investments and high demands for analysis and long-term planning. You are responsible for ensuring that financial management contributes to prioritizing resources where they create the greatest benefit and impact. By combining the operations' goals, financial conditions and the organization's capacity, you and your unit contribute to well-founded prioritizations and efficient resource use that maximizes benefit for operations and society.
A central part of the mission is to further develop the agency's financial management and strengthen coordination within the control area. You will contribute to developing common working methods, creating consensus and building a more cohesive governance model with a clear agency-wide perspective.
You will be part of the division's management group and report to the Division Director. In the management group, you will contribute with a holistic perspective and together with other heads take responsibility for the division's combined mission, results and development.

experience of accounting, financial statements and financial reporting
experience of preparing qualified analysis and decision support for agency management and government departments
very good ability to express yourself in Swedish in speech and writing.
It is meritorious if you also have experience of
developing governance models, operational management or agency-wide governance processes
leading development and change work in larger organizations
operations with complex financial flows, multiple forms of financing and portfolio management
leading other managers
appropriation and fee-based activities
work in management groups at a strategic level.
To succeed in the role
You are a confident and clear leader who creates trust, engagement and good cooperation. You have a strategic and analytical approach and the ability to see the whole, connections and long-term consequences.
You drive development and change in a structured and sustained manner and can translate complex financial issues into clear decision support. You also have the ability to link financial analyses to prioritizations that ensure resources are used where they create the greatest benefit and impact.
