About the Position As Chief Economist, you have overall responsibility for the Finance Unit's collective mandate, which includes operational planning, budgeting, monitoring, financial statements and annual reports, as well as internal governance and control. The role also includes providing qualified support to the agency's managers in, for example, financial analyses, forecasts, and prioritizations. The Finance Unit consists of approximately 20 engaged employees with broad expertise in accounting, financial and operational controlling. You have full personnel, operational, and budget responsibility for the unit. You lead, develop, and coordinate the Finance Unit's work and are responsible for ensuring that financial management and processes are integrated into the agency's overall governance. The National Board of Health and Welfare faces comprehensive changes and is developing its organization, management models, and working methods to meet future needs. As Chief Economist, you have an active and driving role in this work, and contribute your expertise in the state regulatory framework and what is possible to change within given parameters. The Finance Unit is part of the Operations Support Department together with units within procurement, personnel, records, security, and property. You report to the Department Head and are part of the department's management group, where you contribute to the overall development of the department's mandate. We are looking for you who have a business economist education or an academic degree in economics, accounting, or other relevant education multi-year management experience with budget and personnel responsibility experience in financial management and operational management within state operations and good knowledge of state accounting experience in qualified financial work at both operational and strategic levels with good experience in driving financial matters in the organization experience of working closely with management and providing qualified support in governance and prioritization matters experience leading and driving change and operational development work good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish. It is meritorious if you have multi-year current experience as Chief Economist in a larger organization within the public sector. Good to Know The employment is a permanent position based in Stockholm. We apply a 6-month probationary period. Your job title will be Unit Manager. In spring 2027, the agency will move to newly renovated premises in Solna Strand. The position is classified as sensitive and a security clearance with record check will be conducted before an employment decision is made.
