Would you like to work with economics in an environment where you are close to operations? We are now seeking an economist for the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics at Umeå University. The department is part of the Faculty of Science and Technology and conducts activities within several technical fields. Both education and research take place here, often in projects with different types of financing, which makes the economics work varied and operationally focused. As an economist, you have an important role in creating structure and contributing to the organization's overall functioning. You work closely with both operations and management and have many contact points within the department. You will become part of a workplace characterized by care, security, and commitment. The employment is full-time and permanent, starting October 1 or by agreement. The application deadline is August 9, 2026. Main Responsibilities As an economist at the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics, you provide qualified support to operations and management on economic matters. Your responsibilities include, among others, monitoring, analysis, budgeting and forecasting work, financial administration, and bookkeeping. The work has a particular focus on financial management and monitoring of research activities. The work also involves accounting, reporting, and monitoring, both internally within the authority and to external funders and clients. The role is varied and involves you planning your work within given time frames. Qualifications We are looking for someone with at least a university degree in economics or equivalent competence acquired through experience working with qualified economic matters in a larger organization. You have relevant and current experience with qualified economic work. Our department has a strong international character, and therefore you need to be able to communicate well in both Swedish and English, in writing and verbally. Further required are good computer skills and strong knowledge of the Office package, especially Excel. To succeed in the role, you are self-driven and take responsibility for driving your work forward. You have strong analytical skills and can create structure from complex information, as well as the ability to communicate economic information in a pedagogical and audience-adapted manner. The role involves many contact points, which requires that you collaborate well and communicate clearly. Great weight will be placed on personal suitability. Work tasks may change over time. Meritorious Experience Experience with coordination and administration of larger projects, for example EU projects, preferably in a coordinating role, is meritorious.
