The Economics Department is part of the Regional Board's support units, which provide assistance to management and operations on economic and governance matters. We develop and manage economic processes and create conditions for leadership throughout the region to manage their operations. We are now seeking a committed and structured economist for the Economics Department. This is a new position within the Economics Department, which means you will have good opportunities to shape and develop the role over time. You will be part of the Controller Support Unit RSF (Regional Board's Administration) where you work closely with both colleagues and operations. The work location is Umeå with proximity to both operations and collegial support. Some of the work time can also be performed remotely. WORK DUTIES As an economist with us, you provide important service and enable initiatives that impact many. In the role of economist, you work with central parts of the economic process within RSF and contribute to quality, structure, and reliability in financial reporting. You are responsible for ongoing economic work such as supplier invoices, accounting, and budgeting, and you perform monthly closing statements including accruals. The role also involves operations-related administrative support within the Digitalization and Services business area and, since this is a new position, there is room to influence working methods and develop the content of the assignment. Furthermore, you prepare monthly reports and participate in financial follow-up where you ensure that the underlying data is of high quality. The work also includes handling supplier invoices and work in approval flows, as well as preparing materials for cost-benefit analyses. You work in close collaboration with colleagues in the Economics Department and the Digitalization and Services business area where different roles complement each other in the work to support and develop economic management. The work requires good administrative abilities and a structured work approach where you drive your tasks forward and complete them within given timeframes. As an economist, you also contribute to the development and quality assurance of economic processes and working methods. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who is a Master of Science in Economics or has other relevant post-secondary education with a focus on economics. You have good knowledge of accounting, financial statement work, and economic follow-up, as well as a good ability to review information and understand financial flows. It is advantageous if you have experience working within public sector operations and if you have worked with developing and analyzing cost-benefit analyses. To thrive and succeed in the role, we see that you are thorough and structured with an analytical approach. You have the ability to work independently while collaborating well with colleagues and enjoy contributing when needed. Furthermore, you have good communication skills in speaking and writing and can explain and conduct dialogue about economic matters in a pedagogical manner. You need to be driven, have good initiative, and the ability to create contacts and collaboration with the operations we support. You have good knowledge of MS Office and it is advantageous if you have experience with accounting systems, data extraction from operational systems, and decision support. An interest in digital development such as AI, data-driven development, automation, and efficient working methods is an advantage. Employment Type: Permanent employment.
