The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is divided into seven research programs, all focusing on different areas within cell and molecular biology: computational biology and bioinformatics, microbiology and immunology, molecular biology, molecular biophysics, molecular evolution, molecular systems biology, and structural biology. The scientific foundation of what we do lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other areas such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and physics. The department has over 200 employees with approximately 50 doctoral students. An important part of the bioinformatics environment at ICM is the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS), a national research infrastructure that offers expert support, analysis resources, and advanced training in bioinformatics. NBIS has ICM as its host institution. NBIS is the bioinformatics platform at SciLifeLab and also serves as the Swedish node in the European infrastructure ELIXIR. We are now seeking an Economist who will become part of ICM's administrative operations, which currently consists of 10 employees. In this role, you will independently be responsible for financial work within one or more of the department's research programs and for parts of the financial work within the national research infrastructure NBIS. Together with the department's other economists, you will contribute to the overall financial work and help ensure qualified and activity-oriented financial support.
Work Tasks
As an Economist at ICM, you will work with ongoing financial matters and be responsible for both qualified and routine tasks within the finance area. The role includes financial statement and accounting controls, preparation of financial decision-making materials, and management, follow-up, and closure of internal and external projects. You will independently be responsible for budgets, financial statements, as well as ongoing follow-up and analysis, and provide financial support to research group leaders and funders. Some handling of facilities and customer and supplier invoices is included in the work tasks.
The department has several successful research groups with large external grants, including from the EU, which means that the work is often characterized by complex and developing financial issues. The work takes place in close collaboration with program-responsible professors, researchers, and the department's support functions, as well as other economists and administrative staff.
Qualification Requirements
We are looking for you who:
Have at least an academic bachelor's degree in business administration or other education that the employer deems equivalent
Have documented experience working with financial matters in line with the work tasks described above
Have experience working in financial systems, for example Raindance
Have experience working in payroll administration systems, for example Primula
Have very good Excel skills and good computer skills and experience with common office programs for text and presentation, such as Word and PowerPoint
Have very good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing, as the work takes place in an international environment
Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. To succeed in this role, we see that you are service-oriented, communicative, and have a professional and solution-oriented approach. You thrive in a role with many contacts and find it easy to collaborate with both researchers and administrative colleagues. Experience in finance within public sector operations, particularly within a university or college
Experience in project reporting
Experience in handling EU projects or similar assignments
Experience working in the Prisma and EU Participant Portal systems
