About the Job Would you like to work strategically and operationally with nature conservation in a municipality where nature is one of the most valuable assets? As an ecologist in the Nature Conservation Unit, you become an important part of managing the municipality's nature reserves and natural areas while ensuring that natural values are strengthened and developed for both current and future residents. Huddinge is a municipality with proud nature conservation traditions and integrates the preservation and accessibility of nature with urban development in its overarching sustainable development goals. The Nature Conservation Unit is responsible for managing the municipality's 12 nature reserves, one biotope protection area, and other municipal natural areas, which correspond to approximately 47 percent of the municipality's area. A large portion of these areas consists of nature with very high values for biodiversity, outdoor recreation, and natural experiences. We have 12 people working with nature conservation – three ecologists/reserve managers, one land manager, one coordinator, six nature conservationists, and one work supervisor. Job Responsibilities As an ecologist in the Nature Conservation Unit, you work both strategically and operationally to preserve, develop, and strengthen the municipality's natural values in protected areas and on municipal natural land. You contribute to promoting biodiversity, aquatic environments, and outdoor recreation, and work in close cooperation with other municipal departments, authorities, landowners, contractors, and nonprofit organizations to ensure long-term sustainable management of the municipality's nature and water environments. Your responsibilities include: - Planning, designing, and implementing the construction and restoration of wetlands to promote biodiversity and improve water quality. - Handling and responding to referrals within urban planning, nature conservation, and environmental issues, and contributing ecological expertise in the municipality's planning and development processes. - Work on outdoor recreation development by making natural areas, trails, facilities, and information accessible and improving them for visitors. - Lead nature conservation maintenance projects, such as restoration of valuable natural environments, management of meadows and pastures, control of invasive species, and measures to benefit threatened species and habitats. - Manage the municipality's nature reserves, biotope protection area, and natural land by developing and following up management plans, coordinating maintenance measures, conducting monitoring, and ensuring that reserves and other areas develop in accordance with decided conservation objectives. The role also includes seeking and administering external grants, coordinating projects with various stakeholders, and communicating nature conservation and environmental issues to the public, politicians, and other stakeholders. Your Profile We are looking for someone who combines commitment and responsiveness with good knowledge, relevant experience, and a genuine interest in nature conservation, biodiversity, and outdoor recreation. You work independently, take responsibility for your tasks, and at the same time have good collaboration skills. In this role, you make independent assessments within your area of responsibility, you are experienced in project management, and work with issues such as nature reserve management, water management, wetlands, and nature conservation maintenance. You contribute with a solution-oriented approach and have the ability to balance different interests. The work involves many contacts with colleagues, authorities, landowners, contractors, and the public. Therefore, it is important that you are good at building positive relationships and communicate clearly and professionally. We place great importance on your personal qualities and your ability to contribute to good collaboration. The position requires: - Higher education or university degree in biology, biogeoscience, environmental science, or other education that the employer deems equivalent. - At least five years of experience with similar tasks. - Good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both verbally and in writing. - Valid class B driver's license, including automatic. It is advantageous if you have experience planning and implementing the restoration and construction of wetlands and experience seeking, administering, and reporting external grants.
