The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is seeking a doctoral candidate. The position is placed at the Division of Interaction Design and Software Engineering, with the University of Gothenburg as the employer. The division is a leader in research and education on complex, software-intensive systems, with strong international collaborations and close ties to local industry. With approximately 50 researchers – including doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty at all levels – we are one of the largest academic research groups in software engineering worldwide. Our core competencies include AI technology, software testing, requirements management, behavioral software engineering, and software engineering for the automotive industry. These positions are part of a larger research collaboration between academic and industrial partners in fields including the automotive industry, telecommunications, aerospace and space industries, industrial automation, manufacturing, and safety-critical systems. The three doctoral candidates will work on different but complementary aspects of continuous compliance. Doctoral education comprises four years of full-time studies and leads to a doctoral degree. Within the framework of your doctoral position, you may have teaching duties to a maximum of 20% of full-time distributed over the entire study period, which in that case generates a corresponding extension of the study period. Teaching duties typically include instruction at the basic level and advanced level, but may also include research and administration. Qualifications For admission to doctoral education at the research level, basic qualifications are required and, where applicable, the specific qualifications established in the general curriculum for the doctoral subject. Basic qualifications for doctoral education at the research level are held by those who: 1. have completed a degree at advanced level, or 2. have completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or 3. have acquired equivalent knowledge in any other way within or outside the country. Selection Criteria Selection among applicants who meet the requirements for basic and specific qualifications is based on the ability to benefit from doctoral education. It is important that in your application you provide information about your work on theses and articles that you have written or co-authored. Links to relevant projects should be included where appropriate. Fluent English (both spoken and written) is a requirement. Swedish is not required, but the department offers Swedish courses. Admission and Employment After you have been admitted to doctoral education, you will receive a doctoral position at the University of Gothenburg. Regulations for employment as a doctoral candidate are found in Statute SFS 1993:100. The first employment as a doctoral candidate may apply for a maximum of one year and may be renewed with a maximum of two years at a time. A doctoral candidate may be employed as a doctoral candidate for a maximum of eight years, but the total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. The university applies a local agreement on salary setting for doctoral candidates. Employment type: Fixed-term employment, HF 5 ch. 7§ Scope: 100% full-time Start date: September 1, 2026, or by agreement Doctoral education in Computer Science and Engineering requires physical presence to complete the studies. If the person admitted needs a residence permit to pursue studies in Sweden, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has the right to withdraw the admission decision if the admitted person cannot present a valid residence permit on the date of study commencement.
