The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is announcing 5–6 doctoral positions. The doctoral positions are available in one or more of the following subjects: archaeology, library and information science, English, film studies, history, art and visual studies, literature, musicology, religious studies, Swedish language with specialization in linguistics. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, one of Linnaeus University's five faculties, is a dynamic, flexible, and international knowledge environment with both scientific and artistic activities in a large number of subjects. We build complete academic environments where the exchange between teaching, research, and collaboration creates momentum for the university's quality and the surrounding society. The Faculty has seven departments and one institute. Research education is conducted at five of the departments. Subject area for the position: archaeology, library and information science, English, history, film studies, art and visual studies, literature, musicology, religious studies, or Swedish language. The subjects English, history, literature, and Swedish language can be studied with a didactic focus. The subjects English and Swedish language can be studied with a focus on multilingualism or linguistics. The subject English can be studied with a literary focus. Work location until further notice: Work location Kalmar or Växjö. Since Linnaeus University operates in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between the locations occurs. Scope and duration of employment: The employment is time-limited according to HF 5 ch § 7 corresponding to a maximum of four years of full-time studies. The scope is full-time. Start date: February 1, 2027. Job description As a doctoral candidate, you will undergo research education leading to a doctoral degree corresponding to a maximum of four years of full-time studies. You will follow the general study plan of your subject and have your employment at the department where your subject is located. See the subjects' websites. Depending on research focus, you also have the opportunity to participate in one of the Faculty's interdisciplinary research environments. The Higher Education Ordinance stipulates that a person employed as a doctoral candidate should primarily dedicate themselves to their own education. However, an employee may, to a limited extent, work with teaching, research, and administration. Such work may not, before the doctoral degree is obtained, exceed 20% of full working hours. The person hired is expected to spend most of their working time at Linnaeus University's campus in Växjö or Kalmar, except for periods when the research task requires absence (such as archive visits/fieldwork/conferences). Eligibility requirements Basic eligibility is defined in 7 ch. 39 § of the Higher Education Ordinance. One who has: completed a degree at advanced level, completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or elsewhere, in Sweden or abroad, acquired equivalent knowledge. The university may grant an exception from the basic eligibility requirement for an individual applicant if there are special reasons. Special eligibility is held by one who has: 120 higher education credits in the relevant subject, or a related subject, or equivalent knowledge of which 30 higher education credits at advanced level, of which at least 15 higher education credits are independent work good knowledge of Swedish and/or English. Assessment criteria The assessment of the applicant's ability to complete the education at research level is made through a consolidated evaluation that takes into account the following: The relevance, originality, and feasibility of the research plan during four years of full-time education. The scientific skills documented in scientific publications, particularly with regard to the quality of the thesis at advanced level, and other scientific publications. The breadth and composition of the basic education and the picture the assessment group receives of the applicant's prerequisites for benefiting from the education at research level. Weight will be given to personal suitability. Application The application is written in Swedish or English. It begins with a clear indication of which subject you are applying for doctoral education in, and must consist of the following documents: A personal letter in which you motivate why you are applying for the doctoral education. Your CV (maximum two pages). Certified copies of credentials showing that you meet the eligibility requirements for the doctoral position. A research plan (maximum 12,000 characters excluding references). The plan must contain the following parts: a) an introductory popular science summary/abstract of maximum 2,000 characters b) purpose and objectives, c) research questions, d) theoretical framework, e) method and timeline. A copy of your thesis at advanced level or equivalent. Names of and contact information for up to two persons who have consented to serve as your references.
