About the Workplace The Integrative Pancreatic Cancer Research (iPanCare) group at the Department of Translational Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at Lund University, conducts research in precision diagnostics and precision medicine for pancreatic cancer. The group is led by Associate Professor Dr Qiaoli Wang as part of the national SciLifeLab & Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS). Group members are affiliated with national programs within SciLifeLab and DDLS as well as the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine (WCMM) at Lund University. Participation in national graduate schools, various research activities, and retreats within these programs promote national networks and interdisciplinary collaborations. As a member of a young and growing research group, you will receive close supervision from the principal investigator and considerable freedom to explore exciting research projects in the field. Our group is an international and dynamic environment with promising young researchers at various levels with diverse backgrounds in epidemiology, statistics, bioinformatics, and cancer biology. We work with both laboratory-based research and data analysis. The group currently consists of an Associate Professor, a postdoctoral researcher, a statistician (part-time), a PhD student, two research assistants, and several master's students and medical students. The group is located at the Clinical Cancer Center in Malmö. The Department of Translational Medicine (ITM) is now announcing a position in doctoral education as a PhD student in molecular epidemiology. Duties and Responsibilities As a PhD student, your primary task is to conduct doctoral research. You will therefore be admitted as a student and employed at Lund University. The work includes conducting research studies, participating in research projects, and completing mandatory courses in the doctoral program. Within research projects, you will plan studies, conduct translational experiments, collect and quality-assure data, perform analyses, interpret results, and present research findings in scientific publications and at national and international conferences. You are expected to actively participate in seminars and group meetings, develop and maintain close collaboration with your supervisor and colleagues, and plan, structure, and advance your work in accordance with your individual study plan. The position involves working with human samples but does not include work with laboratory animals or cell culture. Qualifications Basic Eligibility You are eligible for doctoral education if you: • Have completed a degree at an advanced level, or • Have completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 are at an advanced level, or • Have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge through other means within or outside the country. Specific Eligibility You have specific eligibility for doctoral education if you: • Have at least 60 higher education credits within the subject area relevant to the doctoral program • Have English language skills equivalent to at least three years of upper secondary school studies • For applicants with degrees from countries outside the Nordic region, documented English language skills are required, equivalent to a passing score on a TOEFL or IELTS test Special Requirements for Employment • Master's degree in molecular epidemiology, cancer biology, bioinformatics, or related field • Strong knowledge in cancer biology and extracellular vesicles • Research experience with biomarkers based on extracellular vesicles • Practical experience with laboratory methods such as ultracentrifugation, ELISA, and flow cytometry • Strong motivation for research on cancer biomarkers • Good analytical skills when working with high-dimensional data • Ability to work independently, be self-driven, initiative-taking, creative, and collaborative, with persistence, stability, a structured work approach, and a solution-oriented mindset • Excellent ability to present and write scientific texts • Good oral and written communication skills in English Meritorious for Employment • Experience with experimental work on human samples • Practical experience with omics data analysis for biomarker discovery or machine learning • Good scientific publication record • Experience in laboratory management and administration • Experience working in an international environment Preference will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
