Project Description
Research Program: Geodesy and Geoinformatics, with focus on Geoinformatics
We are seeking a doctoral researcher for a two-year licentiate position within DISSECT, which develops data-driven models and decision support for emission-free, resource-efficient, and electrified construction and infrastructure production.
The doctoral researcher will work with DISSECT's material and logistics inventory. The research may encompass GeoBIM and 3D voxel models of ground conditions, quantities and material flows; material tracking; volume and mass calculations; inverse geological modeling; and analysis of sensor and telematics data from machinery and transport. The logistics component may include optimization of construction processes, mass transport, circular material flows, and charging constraints.
Methodologically, the work can combine geospatial data management, database technology, data science, machine learning, simulation and optimization, including model predictive control and reinforcement learning. The goal is digital twin-based decision support for electrified earthwork operations.
The position is located at the Department of Geoinformatics, KTH, and is connected to the Integrated Transport Research Lab and the DISSECT consortium. The initial goal is a licentiate degree after two years, but the research and doctoral education are planned with the ambition to continue toward a doctoral degree, subject to continued funding and formal decisions.
Supervision: Associate Professor Gyözö Gidofalvi is proposed as the doctoral supervisor. Professor Jonas Mårtensson is proposed as co-supervisor. Decisions will be made at the time of admission.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to doctoral education (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:
completed a degree at advanced level, or
completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or
acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in some other way within or outside the country.
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6.
Selection
To succeed in your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. In the selection of applicants, the ability to:
independently drive your work forward,
collaborate with others,
have a professional approach, and
analyze and work with complex issues
will be assessed.
Meritorious qualifications include:
experience with simulation, optimization, or digital twin systems,
experience with cloud environments and container-based applications,
experience handling large data sets,
interest in energy systems and sustainability,
experience from research or industry projects, and
strong communication skills in English and Swedish as required in daily work.
After the eligibility requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
Degree Objective: Licentiate Degree
Information about Admission and Employment
Only those admitted to doctoral education may be employed as a doctoral researcher. The total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral-level education for four years. An employed doctoral researcher may, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks in, for example, education and administration. A new employment as a doctoral researcher is valid for a maximum of one year; the employment may thereafter be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. For studies to be concluded with a licentiate degree, the total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral-level education for two years.
As a doctoral researcher, you receive benefits from KTH's employee benefits package and receive a monthly salary according to KTH's collective agreement for doctoral researcher salaries. Read more about Doctoral Studies at KTH | KTH | Sweden.
