Project Description Doctoral Program Subject: Geodesy and Geoinformatics We are seeking a PhD candidate for the project Efficiency Improvement in Rail Track Measurement, funded by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). The main objective of the project is to design and evaluate GNSS measurement methods that meet the requirements for determining track position. See more detailed project description here. The PhD candidate will be placed at the Department of Land Surveying – Real Estate Science and Geodesy and will collaborate with RISE and the Swedish Transport Administration, which are partners in the project. The candidate is expected to have strong knowledge in geodesy (GNSS and reference systems), physics (electromagnetic signal propagation), and mathematics (statistics). Supervision: Prof. Milan Horemuz and a representative from the Swedish Transport Administration are proposed to supervise the PhD candidate. The decision will be made upon admission. Eligibility for Admission To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility: completed a degree at the advanced level, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at the advanced level, or acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country. The candidate must have strong knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, as required in daily work. The candidate must have a background in geodesy, technical physics, or another relevant field. In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement in English equivalent to English B/6. Selection To succeed with your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. In the selection of applicants, the ability to: independently drive your work forward, collaborate with others, maintain a professional approach, and analyze and work with complex issues will be assessed. Target Degree: Doctor's Degree Information on Admission and Employment Only those admitted to doctoral studies may be employed as a PhD candidate. The total length of employment may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral level education for four years. An employed PhD candidate may, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within, for example, education and administration. A new employment as a PhD candidate is valid for a maximum of one year; the employment may thereafter be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
