This announcement concerns 1–2 PhD positions within the "Geopolitics" project, financed by the Swedish Armed Forces. The project is structured around two components: great power rivalry and narrative geopolitics. We welcome applications within both areas. Overall, the project aims to contribute knowledge about great powers, their interactions, and growing rivalry. The difference is that the narrative geopolitics component has a predetermined focus on narrative theory and method, and on how these can be applied to the study of great power politics.
Duties
PhD candidates shall primarily devote themselves to their own education in political science at the research level. Research studies consist of working on their research project and following an individual study plan under supervision. Writing a doctoral dissertation in political science is the central task (165 credits), but completing research training courses is part of the program (75 credits). Typically, 20% of the position consists of institutional duties in the form of teaching, administration, and participation in joint activities. Research studies comprise 240 credits, i.e., four years. The total duration of the PhD position, including 20% institutional duties, is five years.
