Welcome to apply for a job with us! We are now recruiting a PhD student in sociology with a focus on work and working life, positioned at the Department of Pedagogy and Sociology. Your responsibilities The position is part of the research project "Regulated Encounters – Power, Emotions, and Sociotechnics on the Front Line of Labor Market Initiatives." The project examines how standardized models and evidence-based methods are translated and transformed in the daily practice of welfare activities, based on two Swedish empirical cases of coordinated labor market initiatives. The project investigates how professionals on the front line manage the tension between methodological frameworks and the complexity of everyday life, and what this means for relationships with participants and for individuals far from the labor market. The project pays particular attention to groups including non-European-born, elderly, and people with disabilities. The PhD project involves workplace contacts, data collection, data compilation, and feedback in Swedish. Article writing for publication in scientific journals and participation in international conferences will be conducted in English. As a PhD student, you will conduct your doctoral training and research projects in which you participate. Your work may also include teaching or participation in other departmental assignments, up to 20 percent of full-time. Your qualifications You have completed a degree at advanced level or completed courses of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or have otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge. Special eligibility is held by those with 90 higher education credits in sociology or a subject of central importance to sociology, of which at least 30 higher education credits at advanced level, including an independent work at master's level or who in some other way within or outside the country have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge. Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, is a requirement. Experience in qualified investigation and evaluation work in the public sector, or working at the intersection of practice and policy, is advantageous and highly valued. The same applies to experience working with groups far from the labor market, or with issues of disability, integration, or social inclusion. Scientific and methodological expertise in subjects relevant to the research area is advantageous. Particularly valued is experience with qualitative methods – such as interviews, participant observation, and document analysis – as well as theory-based evaluation methodology. Experience combining qualitative and quantitative approaches is also advantageous. Knowledge of welfare policy, coordination and labor market issues, as well as institutional theory and translation perspectives is also advantageous. We are looking for someone with the ability to independently drive your work forward while enjoying collaboration with both research environments and practical operations. Applicants will primarily be assessed based on the ability to carry out the research project and benefit from doctoral training as demonstrated in submitted essays and other documents. As a PhD student, you will also be part of a broader doctoral training context, and take certain courses together with PhD students in other doctoral programs at the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Learning (IBL). About the position Upon taking up the position, you will be admitted to doctoral training. Extension of employment up to five years is based on the degree of teaching and departmental assignments. In special circumstances, further extension may occur. You will initially be employed for one year, after which the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. Start date September 1 or by agreement.
