The Department of Applied Educational Science has approximately 100 employees working in education, research, and commissioned projects. The department has a broad profile based on an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented foundation. The department conducts education and research in the fields of pedagogical work and behavioral science measurement. Focus of the PhD Position This doctoral position is directed toward after-school care or vocational education in schools or in the teacher education programs – Primary Teacher Program with specialization in After-school Care or Vocational Teacher Program. Research on after-school care is conducted primarily in the department's research environment RECEUM, and research on vocational education in the UPU environment. The doctoral subject of pedagogical work is closely connected to pedagogical professional practice in preschools, after-school care, schools, and teacher education, and how this is shaped by various economic, political, and social contexts. You can read more about the department, its doctoral education, and research here: https://www.umu.se/institutionen-for-tillampad-utbildningsvetenskap/ Qualifications Eligible applicants must have general eligibility, which means holding a degree at the advanced level, completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits with at least 60 credits at the advanced level, or having acquired equivalent knowledge in another way, domestically or internationally. To meet the requirement for specific eligibility for admission to doctoral education in pedagogical work at the Department of Applied Educational Science, applicants must have a teaching degree, two years of professional pedagogical experience, and must have written a scientific thesis/exam paper of at least 15 credits. Students who have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way, domestically or internationally, may be admitted to doctoral education after assessment. When selecting among eligible applicants, primary consideration will be given to the ability to benefit from the education, previous academic results, and the quality of the submitted research plan and how well it relates to the focus of the position.
