The Faculty of Science and Health offers education and research in engineering, health, and information design with a clear foundation in societal challenges. The faculty has three departments where approximately 500 people work. The Department of Engineering Sciences brings together large parts of the university's college and civil engineering programs in energy engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, construction engineering, environmental engineering, and industrial systems. Here, internationally recognized research is conducted with a focus on future energy and industrial systems. Collaboration with industry and society is central to developing sustainable, resource-efficient, and competitive solutions for tomorrow's society.

Admission to the research education program is governed by the university's admission regulations, which collect national and local rules that apply to admission to doctoral-level education at Mälardalen University. The education position is associated with a full-time employment as a doctoral student during the education period, which corresponds to four years.
Job Responsibilities
Research education is conducted within the subject of energy and environmental engineering with a focus on electrical power engineering, linked to MDU's existing research areas. The employment also includes departmental duties corresponding to a maximum of 20 percent of working time. Work tasks may include, for example, teaching in the form of exercise classes, laboratory supervision, and supervision of project work.
The doctoral project focuses on the development of future sustainable and resilient electrical power systems, with particular emphasis on:
Flexibility and resilience in electrical power systems,
Integration of energy storage and renewable electricity generation in electrical power systems,
Power electronics related to the integration of batteries and variable electricity generation,
Electricity quality challenges related to increased electrification.
Eligibility Requirements
To be admitted to doctoral-level education, the applicant must have basic eligibility and the specific eligibility required by the subject, and must be assessed to have the necessary ability to benefit from the education.
Basic eligibility for doctoral-level education (according to HF 7 chapter, § 39) is held by those who:
Have completed a degree at advanced level,
Have completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or
Have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way within or outside the country.
Specific Eligibility
Specific eligibility for admission is held by those who have a civil engineering degree or a master's degree in electrical engineering, technical physics, energy systems, or equivalent.
Selection Criteria
Selection among applicants who have basic and specific eligibility shall be made with regard to their ability to benefit from the education (HF 7 chapter 41 §).
In addition, selection among eligible applicants shall be made according to the following assessment criteria: Good skills in writing and communicating in English.
It is also advantageous to have:
Good skills in writing and communicating in Swedish,
Good knowledge of electrical power engineering, power electronics, and power system analysis,
Experience in modeling, simulation, and experimental work.
