The Department of Molecular Biosciences, Wenner-Grens Institute (MBW) conducts experimental basic research in molecular cell biology, integrative biology, infection and immunobiology. The research environment is characterized by modern and advanced methodology and has a strong international profile. MBW is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Stockholm University with over 30 research groups and approximately 180 employees, including doctoral students. The facility's vision is to enable high-quality research by offering excellent service from competent staff in a user-friendly environment. We are now seeking a laboratory animal technician for a parental leave replacement position. The employment is located in Stockholm. Duties As an animal technician, you will participate in daily work in our departments. Access requires a change of clothes and passage through an air shower according to current procedures. Your responsibilities include: cage changes and supervision of mice and rats breeding work, litter separation, ID marking documentation and record-keeping in a database system cleaning of animal rooms and other areas according to the high hygiene standards applied by the facility, emptying of autoclaves and airlocks promotion of good animal care and ensuring that animal research ethical principles are followed unpacking of deliveries including animals, clothing, and feed additional tasks such as sampling, administrations, or temporary work in the dishwashing department may occur practical training of researchers in basic laboratory animal science procedures and care. Due to varying health status between departments, wet showers including shampooing may be required one or more days per week, and this is always required during weekend duties. Note that the work is physically demanding as it includes some heavy lifting and moving as part of the duties. Qualifications We seek an employee who meets the education requirements according to SJVFS 2025:28, reference number L151 (LAS function A, C and D, and Swedish law and ethics) or equivalent education, preferably with experience from a modern animal facility. The position requires strong proficiency in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written, as it includes documentation work, email correspondence, and meetings in both languages. The facility applies many written procedures and holds regular meetings within the personnel group, with researchers, and other professional categories at the institute. Experience as an instructor in practical training in laboratory animal science, as well as administrative work and tasks related to a dishwashing department within laboratory animal operations, are advantageous. About the Employment The position is a 6-month parental leave replacement and is a full-time position with start date according to agreement but no later than September 7, 2026. Stockholm University applies individual salary determination. Working hours are 39 hours 30 minutes per week with flexible scheduling. Scheduled weekend duties and on-call availability are included.
