Design Sciences is now seeking an economist for a developmental and meaningful role in an international research environment. As an economist, you will be responsible for providing professional support to the department in areas of expertise related to finance. Your work will include supporting the dean and division heads in economic analysis, monitoring, and reporting. Duties and Responsibilities As an economist at the department, you will have overall responsibility for preparing materials that compile both the entire department's finances and finances at the division level. This work includes budgeting, forecasting, monthly monitoring, and analysis of financial results/budget/forecast reporting to the faculty's finance director before financial closing (interim and annual accounts), grant application support, contract management, reporting to external funding agencies, ensuring that funds are received, monitoring contracts, and conducting financial investigations. The work may occasionally involve higher workload periods in connection with periodic tasks and the week before the budget is submitted to the faculty, which means fixed deadlines requiring you to be on-site during these specific days. You will work closely with the dean, other division heads at the department, and researchers to ensure that our administrative support economic processes are efficient and appropriate and meet the requirements set by the department and faculty. As an economist, you report to the dean and division heads, and this may also include participating as an adjunct member in the department's management group and department board meetings, as well as representing the department in relevant meetings and networks. Qualifications We are seeking an experienced economist with extensive experience and broad knowledge of financial management, accounting, and financial control. We prefer candidates with experience in financial monitoring within the public/state sector. The position requires strong planning ability, capacity to analyze figures, ability to identify connections and trends, critical thinking, and ability to meet deadlines. Requirements for employment: - University or college degree in economics - Very good knowledge of financial management, accounting, and financial control - Experience and ability to work with administrative systems such as accounting software, etc. - Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written Merits for employment: - Experience working at a university or college - Knowledge of public procurement - Experience with financial reporting of EU projects - Experience from the public/state sector We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
