The Special Judicial Training Program
Svea Court of Appeal is Sweden's largest appellate court with approximately 460 employees. The court's facilities are beautifully located on Riddarholmen in central Stockholm. The court employs approximately 50 court of appeal prosecutors each year. With each recruitment round, several applicants are hired. Becoming a prosecutor is the step after notary service. The judicial training encompasses service at both the court of appeal and the district court.
About the Judicial Training Program
The judicial training consists of both practical service at the district court and court of appeal, and theoretical training provided by the Courts Academy. It can be compared to a trainee program, and the practical service constitutes a very important part of the training. In addition to the common courses provided by the Courts Academy, the court of appeal and district courts provide additional training. The court of appeal has overall responsibility for the judicial training throughout the entire training period.
The practical part of the training includes service as a prosecutor at the court of appeal for at least one year, as a prosecutor at the district court for at least two years, and as an assistant judge at the court of appeal for one year. The prosecutor/acting judge serves as an important workforce for the court throughout the judicial training. The prosecutor's/acting judge's work shall be planned so that the tasks contribute to achieving the objectives of the judicial training. The Courts Academy is responsible for the theoretical training, which consists of nine mandatory courses during the judicial training.
The judicial training provides a unique opportunity to acquire comprehensive legal knowledge and experience from various courts. Choosing a judicial career means that you will daily contribute to a democratic and lawful society where you work for everyone's right to have their case heard in an impartial court.
Qualifications, etc.
To begin the special judicial training program, you must have completed the notary training. Work at a court requires that hired prosecutors meet high standards regarding professional competence and judgment, among other things.
The employment begins with a six-month probationary period. After successful completion of the probationary period, the employment becomes permanent.

Start Date: The court of appeal hires new prosecutors with start dates on January 1, March 1, May 1, September 1, and November 1 each year.

You can find this advertisement under "Job Openings" on www.domstol.se. Note that you should only submit one application even if you are applying for both the regular and the designated position. In the application form, you must specify which position(s) you are applying for and your order of preference.
An application will remain with the court of appeal in the court's candidate pool for six months after it has been submitted, regardless of whether you have only applied for the regular position, only the designated position, or both.
Applications must be received by the court of appeal no later than August 15, 2026.
In accordance with the court of appeal's employment procedures, background checks will be conducted in the event of employment.
