As emergency response personnel on standby (RiB), you have a duty alongside your regular work and respond to alarms in the area where you live and work. You become part of a work team that together is responsible for carrying out rescue operations and contributing to safety in society.
About the Work
Being a part-time firefighter means you live and work as usual in your everyday life, but during certain weeks you are on standby. This means you must be able to respond when the alarm sounds – regardless of the time of day.
When you are on standby, you carry a pager and must be able to reach the fire station within 5 minutes. From there, you travel with your colleagues to various rescue operations.
This can involve fires in buildings, vehicles, or forests and fields. You may also encounter traffic accidents, automatic alarms, acute medical emergencies where you provide first aid while waiting for an ambulance, or other situations where people need help quickly.
Your task is to work with your colleagues to create safety, help those affected, and limit damage as much as possible.
Between alarms, you train and educate yourselves regularly. You become part of a group where teamwork, responsibility, and trust are essential.
