Description Svenska Balettskolan is a preparatory professional dance training program within the framework of primary school, serving students in grades 4-9. The school is open to students nationwide and recruits from throughout Western Sweden. The proficiency tests are administered by the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket), with assistance from an international jury appointed by Skolverket. In addition to standard academic subjects, students train primarily in classical ballet, but also in contemporary modern dance, choreography, scenic folk dance, acrobatics, jazz, and scenic performance (drama). We are now seeking a dance director who wants to develop the quality of dance instruction and student achievement. This is a full-time permanent position. A trial employment period may apply. As a dance director, you have a central leadership role in the school's dance activities. You lead and coordinate the school's dance teacher team and are responsible for working together with the school's dance management to develop the activities, teaching, and working methods that create a professional and sustainable educational environment for both students and staff. Responsibilities Lead, coordinate, and monitor the work within the school's dance teacher team Manage the school's pedagogical work in ballet, contemporary modern dance, and supplementary dance training Drive and coordinate the development of the dance program's working methods, structure, and quality Responsible for curriculum content, progression, and dance examinations according to the program's course plans Support and develop dance teachers in their pedagogical work and contribute to effective teamwork within the group Handle situations requiring clear leadership, problem-solving, and difficult conversations Responsible for the school's mentorship program for dance students Contribute to the development of the program with focus on students' artistic, technical, and personal development toward a sustainable dance career Collaborate with the school's dance management, dance health team, student wellness team, and other parts of the school's operations The position also includes practical and administrative work, study trips, general supervision of dance students, and other relevant tasks. Depending on role distribution, dance instruction and mentorship of students may be included in the position. Work may take place during daytime and evening hours as well as weekends according to the needs of the dance training program. This role is ideal for you if you have a strong passion for dance and education and are motivated by leading people and developing programs. You thrive in a role with many contact points and varied tasks where you alternate between strategic development work, operational leadership, and issues that need immediate attention. Qualifications We are seeking someone with documented leadership experience and experience as a manager in dance or other relevant artistic or education-related activities. You have experience leading staff, coordinating operations, and driving development initiatives. You also need administrative experience and knowledge of process and project management. You are confident in your leadership and have experience handling complex situations, difficult conversations, conflicts, and situations where different needs and perspectives must be balanced. You can make decisions, create clarity, and at the same time build trust and strong relationships. You have solid knowledge of dance and ballet and a clear commitment to how dance education can develop through both artistic and pedagogical quality. You also understand the importance of physical and mental health and injury prevention to give students the foundation to develop into sustainable dancers. You should be able to lead both dance teachers and dance students with clarity and good communication. You can engage with different personalities and conduct clear, respectful, and professional dialogues with staff, students, and guardians. You are a role model in your leadership and have the ability to maintain calm, structure, and sound judgment even in challenging situations. As a person, you are driven, development-focused, and action-oriented. You take initiative and can turn ideas and goals into practical work. At the same time, you work in a structured manner and have the ability to prioritize, coordinate, and follow up on multiple parallel processes. You collaborate well with others and contribute to engagement, participation, and shared responsibility for the program's development.
