About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service Åby Prison is an open facility located in a scenic environment in Gunsta, just over a mile outside Uppsala. The facility accommodates 60 male clients, who are offered activities consisting of light woodwork industry, kitchen work, outdoor duties and service work, as well as education and program interventions. The facility currently has 45 employees working together to secure society and reduce recidivism. Planning is underway for Ulleråker Detention Center with 42 detention spaces and a new Uppsala Detention Center with 240 detention spaces. In Västerås, a new detention center of 200 spaces is being built, expected to be completed in Q4 2028. We are now looking for you—someone with the competence, fundamental security, and experience to contribute to Åby Prison's development of inmate activities together with your colleagues. Job Description At the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you work with a complex and important public mission where you can make a difference. As a leader, you help your colleagues equip our clients in various ways to lead lives free from crime and drugs, what we call "Better Out." The foundation of your role as a first-line manager at the prison is to lead, develop, and follow up on operations and provide support to your colleagues in daily work. The role includes personnel, budget, and work environment responsibility for approximately 15 employees. In addition to these responsibilities, you are expected to actively contribute to the development and management of the facility's inmate activities. The role involves substantial collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, including internal contacts for inmate education and external customer relationships for the woodwork industry. In your role, you work continuously with activities tied to the facility's annual calendar, which includes systematic work environment efforts, operations and staff development, salary reviews, and development of work methods and procedures. To assist you, in addition to competent colleagues, you have access to support functions within HR, payroll, staffing coordination, and others. You report directly to the Prison Director and are part of the management team. You are expected to share responsibility with your colleagues for your own and, when necessary, your colleagues' units.
