Our three priority research themes are "The Geosphere," "Processes at the Earth's Surface," and "Climate and Climate Change." Within geology, which is part of the "Geosphere" research theme, we have established strengths in hydrogeology, geochemistry, geophysics, and structural geology. More information is available on our website: https://www.gu.se/geovetenskaper https://www.gu.se/jobba-hos-goteborgs-universitet/anstallningsformaner Subject Geology Subject Description Geology at the Department of Earth Sciences encompasses studies of today's geodynamic processes in the solid Earth and the development of Earth and other terrestrial planets throughout the history of the solar system. Current research includes mineral resources for the green transition, ice dynamics, development of new geochemical and petrophysical methods, groundwater resources, soil and groundwater contamination, processes in subduction zones and their connection to natural disasters, climate change in Earth's geological history, and geothermal energy. The Geology Group at the Department of Earth Sciences offers excellent research infrastructure with modern analytical facilities, such as a microgeochemical laboratory, a stable isotope laboratory, a water analysis laboratory, a micro-Raman laboratory, and an ice and microplastic analysis laboratory. These are complemented by advanced facilities for remote sensing and visualization. Job Responsibilities The position of Assistant Professor is a tenure-track position with a primary focus on research (up to 80 percent of the position involves research). A fully funded doctoral student position is affiliated with the position. As an Assistant Professor, you are expected to establish and lead an independent research program. Your responsibilities include publishing in leading international peer-reviewed journals and actively seeking and obtaining external research funding. Teaching comprises up to 20 percent of the position. Qualifications Eligible to be employed as an Assistant Professor is someone who has earned a doctoral degree in geology or related subject areas, or has equivalent scientific competence. Preference will be given to those who earned their doctoral degree or reached equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline for the Assistant Professor position. However, those who earned their doctoral degree or reached equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special circumstances, such as leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar situations. Ability to teach in English is a requirement. Evaluation Criteria Evaluation is based primarily on scientific competence, secondly on pedagogical competence, and thirdly on ability to collaborate and administrative competence.
