The position is placed within the subject of systems biology, which at Skövde University is defined as the development and application of computer-based, mathematical and statistical methods and models as well as generation of large-scale data for studies of biological systems. Systems biology is also the name of the department's research environment, which brings together research on biological systems and creates conditions for interdisciplinary collaboration between research groups with complementary expertise. Your Role The position as Assistant Professor is a tenure-track position aimed at promotion to a permanent position as Associate Professor. The Assistant Professor will have the opportunity to develop an independent research profile and establish merits in both scientific and pedagogical areas to meet the eligibility requirements for employment as an Associate Professor. The position is limited to four years and is full-time. An individually adapted development plan will be established to support the Assistant Professor's advancement. During the employment period, the Assistant Professor may apply for promotion to Associate Professor when the eligibility requirements are met. Upon granted promotion, the position becomes permanent. The goal of the position is for you to establish an independent research profile in AI-driven precision medicine with roots in systems biology. You are expected to contribute to the long-term development of the department's research in the field by developing national and international collaborations and formulating competitive applications for external research funding. The position also includes teaching and supervision within the department's educational programs, particularly in bioinformatics and systems biology at the advanced level. The main work tasks within the position are: Conduct and develop research in AI-driven precision medicine. Initiate and develop national and international research collaborations and actively seek external research funding. Collaboration with the surrounding society as well as with academic, clinical, and industrial actors. Teaching, supervision, and examination, at undergraduate and graduate levels. Administration. Additional work tasks may be included in the position. We are looking for someone who has: Completed doctoral degree in systems biology, biomedicine, bioscience, or a related field, or achieved equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, candidates with a doctoral degree completed or equivalent competence achieved at most five years before the application deadline should be considered. (HF 4 kap. 4 a §) Documented scientific competence in systems biology with focus on biological or biomedical research questions. Documented experience in developing and applying methods within AI/machine learning and statistical modeling for analysis of biological and medical data. Documented strong ability to communicate and present scientific research results in English, both orally and in scientific publications. Documented good collaboration skills and ability to contribute to and develop research collaborations. We will also evaluate the following assessment criteria in the employment: Of highest importance: The degree of competence required for eligibility. Documented strong ability to independently conduct research and publish scientific results. Ability and potential to develop competitive applications for external research funding. Documented experience in establishing and developing national and international research collaborations and networks. Of next highest importance: Documented programming competence in Python and R for advanced analysis and integration of large-scale biological and medical data. Knowledge of network and multiomics data analysis, including bulk and single-cell RNA-seq analysis, and experience with applications in precision medicine and advanced therapies (ATMP). Documented experience with established frameworks for AI/machine learning, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or equivalent, and practical experience in developing and applying advanced AI models on high-performance computing infrastructure, including GPU-based systems. Also of importance: Demonstrated pedagogical competence. Employment Type: The position is limited to four years. An Assistant Professor has the right during the employment period to apply for promotion to Associate Professor when achieving the required qualifications. Upon granted promotion, the position becomes permanent.
