IT Project Management is an interdisciplinary field that encompasses social sciences, behavioral sciences, and computer science. The field focuses on developing theory and practice in software project management, among other areas.
In software-intensive contexts, IT project management integrates software development methods with theories and methods for managing distributed multidisciplinary teams. The field also encompasses knowledge of business and change strategies for software companies, as well as empirical research on AI-driven software development and its implications.
Job Responsibilities
The main responsibilities as an assistant professor include research, teaching, and supervision at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. Examples of courses included here are Monitoring and Control of IT Projects and Trends in Project Management.
The holder of this position is expected to strengthen the scientific content and practical relevance of education within software project management methods and empirical research methods for software project management. Furthermore, the holder is expected to help shape education and research in line with emerging AI-driven software development methods.
The majority of the research will focus on the intersection of software development and IT project management, with a strong emphasis on the future of AI-driven software development (such as AI-driven workflows, human-AI collaboration in engineering teams, evolving roles and responsibilities in teams, quality and security in AI-driven development, and impact on processes and coordination patterns). Research is expected to result in academic publications on this topic.
The holder of this position is expected to initiate and contribute to externally funded research, collaborate with partners in industry and the public sector, and participate in interdisciplinary initiatives where relevant.
The employment is divided between research (55 percent) and teaching (45 percent) of full-time.
Qualification Requirements
Eligible for employment as an assistant professor is someone who has completed a doctoral degree in computer and systems science with specialization relevant to software project management or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, those who have completed a doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline for the assistant professor position should be considered. However, those who completed their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be eligible if there are special circumstances. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.
The applicant must have both the ability to collaborate and the ability and suitability otherwise needed to perform the job responsibilities well.
In order to perform the responsibilities of this position, the applicant must have documented ability to use English in speech and writing at a professional level. This is demonstrated, for example, through documented experience teaching in English or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least B2 level (CEFR).
Assessment Criteria
Particular emphasis is placed on scientific excellence as demonstrated through well-documented qualitative and quantitative empirical research on software project management methods, management of software projects in distributed multidisciplinary teams, and/or AI-enabled/AI-driven software development methods and work practices.
Great weight is placed on pedagogical skill, normally demonstrated through personal teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels within the field. Pedagogical skill must be well-documented in a manner that allows assessment of the quality of the pedagogical activities.
Great weight is placed on a well-developed research plan for the employment period.
Great weight is placed on documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and co-workers.
Great weight is placed on pedagogical skill in distance teaching, digital examinations, and supervision of thesis work at a distance.
Weight is placed on successfully planning, seeking, and obtaining funding for research projects from external funders.
Weight is placed on administrative skill and the ability to cooperate with the surrounding society and to communicate research and development work.
Higher education pedagogy training of at least 7.5 credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way is meriting.
About the Employment
An assistant professor may be employed on a permanent basis, but for a period of at least four and at most six years in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100) (HF). At the Faculty of Social Sciences, the employment shall be for a period of four years. The length of employment is determined before the posting.
The purpose of the employment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for employment as a university lecturer.
Other Information
Applicants who lack higher education pedagogy training of at least 7.5 credits and who are not assessed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way must complete such training during the first two years of employment.
Swedish language proficiency is not a requirement for the appointment, but the applicant must be prepared to take on administrative and pedagogical responsibilities within two years that require understanding and use of Swedish.
The length of employment is four years.
