Duties SciLifeLab and the Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) is a 12-year initiative focused on data-driven research, with the aim of educating and recruiting the next generation of life scientists and creating strong and globally competitive expertise in computational science and data science for Swedish life science. The program aims to strengthen national collaborations between universities, bridge research environments in life and data science, and create partnerships with industry, healthcare, and other national and international actors. We are now seeking outstanding experts in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to support excellent research projects and participate in advanced mentoring and researcher training at the national level. As part of our national support team, you will become a fully integrated member of SciLifeLab's bioinformatics platform (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden: www.nbis.se), a unique national infrastructure with over 120 experts that provides advanced support, infrastructure, and training in bioinformatics and data science to the Swedish life science research community, with a strong national and international collaboration network. The main duties are to: Conduct advanced data analyses within nationally prioritized data-driven research projects in life science, with a focus on advanced machine learning and AI. Develop and implement necessary tools and workflows for such analyses. Train other researchers throughout Sweden through collaboration in project support, consultations, mentoring, and advanced national researcher training courses. Contribute to the strategic development of advanced machine learning and AI at the bioinformatics platform, within the DDLS program, and within SciLifeLab as a whole, in close collaboration with external partners. Qualifications We seek outstanding experts in machine learning and AI with experience in areas such as advanced image analysis, data structuring and data integration, and large language models (LLMs) with applications in biological and biomedical research. Successful candidates should have: a doctoral degree or equivalent work experience in image analysis, bioinformatics, data science, engineering, physics, or equivalent. extensive experience (3+ years) in applying and/or developing advanced methods in machine learning and AI relevant to internationally competitive life science research. very good oral and written communication skills in English. strong collaboration and communication skills. Additional Qualifications Relevant postdoctoral studies or equivalent experience from industry is a strong merit but not required. Programming skills in Python and experience with data science tools such as NumPy, Pandas, or Matplotlib are advantageous, as is experience with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow. "Reproducible research" and "FAIR data" are central concepts for us, and we value experience in developing reproducible code through code sharing platforms, version control, workflow languages, and container solutions. Documented ability to responsibly and in accordance with laws and regulations use machine learning/AI methods for sensitive personal data is advantageous, as is experience with validation and/or interpretability of AI models. About the Position The position is permanent, full-time, with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary determination. Start date by agreement.
