About the position The Maritime Museum Aquarium is a meeting place for everyone who wants to discover, learn and deepen their knowledge of life under, above and by the sea surface – from both cultural historical and natural historical perspectives. The museum's collections contain extensive photographic material depicting people, places, activities and events connected to the sea and Gothenburg. We are now seeking an image coordinator who wants to help structure, document and make accessible parts of this valuable photo collection. In this role, you will work with inventorying and reviewing the museum's photographic archive, which includes glass plates, negatives and paper copies. You identify and select photographs for future thematic exhibitions and work with scanning, registration, basic image editing and documentation in the museum's collections database. An important part of the work is also conducting research in archives and secondary literature to develop context, captions and factual material. You are also responsible for ensuring correct handling of image copyright and documenting rights as well as establishing and managing agreements for image use, transfer and licenses. The work is conducted in close collaboration with the exhibitions producer and collections staff. Other tasks may occur based on operational needs. This is a project position at 80 percent for the period November 1, 2026 to October 31, 2027. Working hours are during daytime, Monday to Friday. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has: Post-secondary education in a relevant field of knowledge, such as cultural heritage, museology, archive and information science, photo history, history or ethnology, or professional experience that the employer considers equivalent. Experience with visual cultural heritage or image management. Experience with research and information retrieval. Good ability to express yourself in Swedish in speech and writing and writes grammatically correct Swedish. Good digital competence and experience working in modern digital environments. Good research skills in archives and secondary literature. Basic knowledge of image editing software. It is advantageous if you have: Experience working in a museum or cultural historical institution. Experience with exhibition production. Experience working in databases or collection systems. Experience working with copyright issues related to photography. Knowledge of maritime history or Gothenburg history. Who thrives in this role?
