About Us
Hagfors Library is an integrated public and school library. We are part of the cultural unit within the Children and Education Department, which includes the culture school, youth centers, and other cultural activities in the municipality.
We work closely with the municipality's preschools and schools and have a clear mission to promote language, reading, and early literacy. The library is part of Library Värmland – a regional collaboration with shared systems, IT services, digital services, and the Book-it library system.
The Assignment
As a library assistant specializing in early childhood, you will be an important part of the municipality's effort to strengthen children's language development and early encounters with literature. You work closely with preschool staff, the Family Center, and the library team to create inspiring, accessible, and enjoyable reading experiences for children in preschool and early school years.
You are part of the library's regular operations but have a special focus on developing collaboration with preschools, the Family Center, and other actors who meet children and young people in the municipality.
Job Responsibilities
The role includes:
- promoting reading together with preschools and other activities that serve younger children, and supporting their work with language and literacy
- planning and conducting book talks, storytelling hours, and other activities for the youngest children
- receiving groups of children at the library and creating safe, playful, and inspiring encounters with books
- participating in and planning the library's programming for children and youth (0–18 years)
- working with book handling, media planning, circulation, and logistics related to preschool needs
- coordinating book boxes, theme boxes, and materials for preschools
- providing service to preschool staff and serving as a contact person between the library, preschool, and Family Center
- collaborating with other actors, such as the Children and Youth Program, the culture school, and youth centers
- participating in the library's other activities, including some evening and weekend shifts
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- has experience working in preschool, a library, or other activities with children
- has a strong interest in children's literature and early language development
- is comfortable working with both children and adults
- is organized, responsible, and has good planning and organizational skills
- has good digital competence and can use the library's systems and digital tools
- has good collaborative skills and a professional demeanor
Meritorious:
- experience with reading promotion work
- knowledge of child language development
- experience working in library systems
Requirements
Driver's license with category B authorization.
Great weight is placed on personal suitability.
