The Libraries on Gotland consist of ten public libraries spread across the entire island, with Almedal Library as the main library. The unit consists of 35 committed employees in the roles of librarians, library assistants, and library administrators. The unit is led by a unit manager and an assistant unit manager. We have close collaboration with the unit for regional library development.
The Libraries on Gotland operate in accordance with library legislation for the development of a democratic society by contributing to knowledge dissemination and freedom of opinion formation. We do this by promoting reading and access to literature, offering a broad range of programs, and being a meeting place for everyone. With a new library plan for the period 2026-2029, the libraries' focus will include collaborative learning and development of the democracy mission, as well as activities for prioritized groups in various forms of co-creation processes.

The Libraries on Gotland are now seeking a librarian with main placement at Almedal Library in Visby.
Your responsibilities
Your assignment will be to work with others to drive efforts around promoting reading for adults, multilingual communities, and national minorities through, among other things, outreach work. This also involves promoting reading engagement and activating ideas about the possibilities of reading through, for example, easy-to-read literature, book circles, and language cafés.
The work includes organizing and conducting events and leading author talks and conversations on issues around democracy, freedom of opinion formation, civic education, sustainability, and preparedness. At the Libraries on Gotland, it is self-evident that we create our activities and the services we offer together with our users.
The position includes routine tasks such as systematic collection work, circulation work, and of course the important daily interaction with visitors in the library space and at the information desk.
The position includes weekend and evening shifts.
Who are you?
You have a bachelor's or master's degree in library or information science. It is a requirement that you hold a B driver's license.
We consider it an advantage if you have training in facilitating conversations. It is also advantageous if you have experience working in libraries as well as experience with service design methodology (UX).
We are looking for you who have a special interest in literature and a strong commitment to the libraries' important democracy mission.

You are confident in meeting other people and are comfortable appearing in front of an audience.
