The geographical area spans 13 municipalities. Jönköping Police District is divided into three local police districts: Höglandet, Södra Vätterbygden, and Värnamo. At the police district level, there is an investigations section and a police district office. We are now recruiting a detention officer for the detention facility in Värnamo who is confident and empathetic with strong collaboration skills. WORK DUTIES Work in the detention facility is conducted under the leadership of a station commander and in close collaboration with the local police district's other operations such as intervention and investigation activities. As a detention officer, you will handle and meet people who are deprived of their freedom for various reasons. Many are detained in order to investigate crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to intoxication or disturbance of public order. The Police also assist other authorities with custody for shorter periods. The work tempo varies over time and depends on how many people are detained for various reasons. As a detention officer, you are the person with whom the detainee has the closest contact during their time deprived of freedom in the detention facility. You will undergo introduction and training to become qualified to work as a detention officer. Your main work duties: • You assist the intervention activities with reception and frisk searches • You monitor and regularly check on those in the detention facility • You perform administrative work, for example using the police data systems to document the detention and perform database entries. You perform DNA swabs, take fingerprints, and photograph the detainee (booking) • You support other operations with administrative tasks such as service of documents and reception work, as well as simpler investigation work Work at other police stations than the one you are employed at may occur. QUALIFICATIONS This is an opportunity for you who have: • Completed and approved upper secondary education with complete grades or equivalent education that the employer considers equivalent • Experience working with a focus on contact with people that the employer considers relevant for the position • Good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish and English • Class B driver's license We also consider it meritorious if you, in addition to the above, have: • Experience working with people in vulnerable situations from, for example, the Swedish Police Authority, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, social services, healthcare, or psychiatry • Good computer skills with experience working in different data systems • Experience working as a detention officer or other work that the employer considers equivalent • Completed the police's detention officer training with a passing result Personal Qualities You have the ability to work independently but also in close collaboration with other detention officers. Your good collaboration can be crucial for you to together maintain high safety awareness. You will meet people who are in poor physical and mental health, which means the work requires you to have a professional demeanor and an approach characterized by empathy and the equal value of all, regardless of the reason for deprivation of freedom. Work in the detention facility can be both mentally and physically challenging. You therefore need to have good communication skills, personal maturity, and be stable even in vulnerable and stressful situations. Your ability to remain calm and controlled in situations that feel threatening can be decisive for how a situation develops. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
