Local Police Area Lapland is part of Norrbotten Police Area. Within the local police area, there are response and crime prevention activities, investigation teams, as well as support and service. Work Tasks As a detention officer, you will have a varied and dynamic role where no two days are the same. You will be an important part of both our internal and external service, alternating between work in the detention facility and other central assignments within the agency. In the detention facility, you are responsible for receiving and handling individuals deprived of liberty – from individuals held short-term to persons detained in connection with criminal investigations. You are their closest contact during their stay and also perform simpler investigative measures and administrative tasks related to detention operations. Beyond work in the detention facility, based on operational needs, you will participate in the Police Authority's external and internal service assignments. In the external assignment, you may work at the reception desk, where you are the agency's face to the public. You meet citizens, assist with passport and ID applications, and support matters such as lost and found, report intake, service of documents, and simpler investigative work. In internal service, work tasks may vary between local services, support with minor internal moves, mail and goods handling, and simpler work in our garage – for example, vehicle maintenance and simpler servicing of the agency's vehicles. Work pace varies and the position can at times be both physically and mentally demanding, which means you need to have good general health. The role also involves heavy lifting at certain moments. The work includes night shifts every other weekend and shift work. Travel and work at other locations will occur in this position. Qualifications This is an opportunity for you who have: Completed and approved upper secondary school diploma or equivalent knowledge acquired through studies Good computer skills and ability to quickly learn new IT systems Good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing Good knowledge of English in speech Category B driver's license for manual transmission It is advantageous if you also have: At least one year of documented work experience (internships do not count) Current professional experience working with/meeting people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations as assessed by the employer as relevant Current professional experience from detention facilities, correctional services, and/or the Armed Forces Current experience from operations with work tasks similar to detention facility work as assessed by the employer as relevant Completed the Police Authority's detention officer training with a passing grade Driver's license B96, BE, or higher Forklift certification Good health, both physical and mental, as the work requires that you must act physically at certain times Personal Qualities As an employee, you are the police's face to the public and are expected to work based on commitment, availability, and efficiency. Since this is a dynamic role where you will work with many different tasks and meet people in different situations, the position requires that you have a flexible work approach where you can quickly adapt and have a flexible attitude toward which work tasks should be performed. The role will also place demands on your ability to cooperate with many different functions within the agency. This means you can work independently but also have good ability to collaborate and cooperate in a team where collaboration is a large part of everyday work. You will also meet people in a vulnerable position, which places demands on your ability to communicate. Furthermore, we see that you have a high degree of personal maturity and are confident in yourself. You act professionally and conduct yourself with integrity. You are a trustworthy person who is comfortable taking own initiative, making your own decisions, and solving the problems you face.
