Description of the Workplace
The Folk Life Archive with Scania's Music Collections is a traditional archive affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities at Lund University since 1913. Our mission is to serve as an infrastructure for research and education. The collections consist primarily of cultural-historical and ethnological documents, including stories, audio recordings, photographs, and other images that reflect everyday life past and present. Many of the materials are digitized and searchable via our website.
The archive has five employees and is now seeking a new archive director. The Folk Life Archive is located in modern facilities at Archive Center South in southern Lund, where other archive institutions such as the National Archives and Lund City Archive also operate.

Job Responsibilities
As archive director, you will be responsible for managing and developing the Folk Life Archive's operations in accordance with current mandates. You will lead the work both operatively and strategically at the archive and have responsibility for budget, personnel, and work environment, and you will also participate in operational work. The archive director is expected to lead and develop the staff, engage and create participation with a shared goal of meeting the archive's needs, and conduct independent research. The archive director is responsible for the archive's collaboration with research and education, primarily within the Faculties of Humanities and Theology but also other departments at Lund University.
The Folk Life Archive with Scania's Music Collections is one of the Faculties of Humanities and Theology's infrastructure units, and the archive director participates in the faculties' management council and in the network for collections at Lund University. The archive director participates in the Archive Center South council for collaboration among the different organizations at Archive Center South.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position:
Completed doctoral degree in a subject area relevant to the position.
Experience working with cultural-historical archives and knowledge of regulations and processes for archive management, personal data processing, and related matters.
Experience leading and developing work, routines, and processes relevant to the Folk Life Archive's operations.
Very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
Several years of experience as a manager or leader of operations or projects.
Great weight will be placed on personal suitability such as good collaboration skills, initiative, and the ability to delegate and organize work in a developmental manner. Consideration will be given to your commitment and how, through your experience and competence, you are assessed to be able to lead the department and take responsibility for its future development.
Meritorious qualifications for the position:
Having established Nordic networks within the Folk Life Archive's field of operations
Documented good leadership skills and experience in leadership in working life
Experience with successful applications for external research funding and management of research projects
High integrity and good ability to prioritize, make decisions, and act professionally
Good communication skills
Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
Other Information
The position is permanent and full-time, starting January 1, 2027, or by agreement. Interviews will be held in Lund during weeks 37 and 38.

About the Folk Life Archive
The Folk Life Archive with Scania's Music Collections, which is physically located at Archive Center South in Lund, is the only traditional archive in the country that is affiliated with a university. The contact between collection, research, and education has proven fruitful for the archive over the years. The archive, whose collection area primarily covers southern Sweden, collects and provides material for research purposes, education, and the general public, while the collection is adapted to research questions. The archive's material includes collections, interviews, questionnaires sent to informants with cooperation agreements and online surveys, recordings, and photographs. A large portion of the collections is digitized. An important part of the archive's activities consists of making the collections accessible to the general public. The archive is contacted and visited by journalists, school classes, teachers, local historians, students, researchers, and others seeking information about a particular subject area or, for example, a particular parish.
