As part of this initiative, ten research assistants will be hired, distributed across the university's departments (two per department). The work is coordinated centrally within LTU's AI initiative and takes place in close collaboration with other research assistants and the rector's AI advisor, Marcus Liwicki. In the role of research assistant, you contribute to the development of education and research-related activities connected to AI. Job Responsibilities In the role of research assistant, you will contribute to supporting and strengthening the use of AI in education, research, and operations support at the university. The work takes place in close collaboration with the university's departments, teachers, researchers, and administrative staff. Your responsibilities include participating in and contributing to workshops, seminars, and discussions about the use of AI in education, research, and administrative processes. You will collaborate with key personnel at the department, such as head education leaders (HUL), teachers, researchers, and operations support managers, to identify needs and opportunities related to AI. The work also includes mapping and disseminating good examples of AI use within the university as well as contributing to planning and implementation of activities that strengthen AI competence at the department. The role also includes contributing to documentation, experience sharing, and reporting on completed activities. You will also support the department's participation in the university's joint AI initiatives. This includes participating in planning and implementation of LTU AI Day, which is held on November 3–4, 2026. Required Competencies and Experience You must be enrolled in an educational program at Luleå University of Technology in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related field, such as Applied AI, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering in Computer Science. Students in relevant master's programs are also welcome to apply. You must have completed at least four semesters of full-time studies, of which at least two semesters at LTU. You must demonstrate strong academic results in relevant areas such as computer science, artificial intelligence, or machine learning, and have completed courses with clear connections to AI. It is a merit to have experience with generative AI, large language models (LLM), AI agents, or related technologies. Experience with programming, for example in Python, as well as knowledge of relevant tools and frameworks is also a merit. Additionally, experience with project work, student engagement, or knowledge dissemination and educational initiatives is viewed positively. To succeed in the role, you are proactive, responsible, and have strong collaboration skills. You enjoy communicating with different audiences, work independently, and actively contribute to the development of the operations. Terms of Employment Employment as a research assistant is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5. Only those admitted to education at basic or advanced level may be employed as a research assistant (Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, Section 10). Hourly Rate/Compensation For all assignments, you receive an hourly rate plus valuable work experience for your CV. Hourly rates depending on the difficulty of the work tasks: Level 1: 156 kr/hour (equivalent to approximately 25,700 kr/month for full-time work). Level 2: 171 kr/hour (equivalent to approximately 28,200 kr/month for full-time work). Level 3: Salary decisions are made in consultation with your manager according to work and decision procedures. Information The position comprises 10% of full-time, for 6 months, from August 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027 or by agreement. Place of work is Luleå. Workload may vary over time and by agreement, but the goal is to distribute it in a way that is compatible with studies at the university.
