Description
The Faculty of Health, Natural Sciences and Engineering is seeking a student assistant in mechanical engineering for the Department of Engineering Science and Physics. A student assistant is a student who, alongside their studies, works part-time on activities such as laboratory work, supervision or administration related to ongoing courses.
The Department of Engineering Science and Physics, characterized by a pleasant, inspiring and international atmosphere with employees from many parts of the world, has approximately 60 staff members. We offer, among other things, engineering degree programs in mechanical engineering, innovation engineering & design and electrical engineering, master's degree programs in industrial economics, mechanical engineering and technical physics, as well as doctoral programs in industrial economics, materials engineering and physics.
The department runs a student project, Formula Student, where students alongside their studies design and build a racing car. The project runs for one year and participants compete within an international regulatory framework. The student group operates as a team under the name Clear River Racing
Job Responsibilities
The main duties consist of project management and coordination of the Formula Student project.
In this role, you will work with the university's advisor in recruiting a management team for the project (group leaders for various project groups). You will have frequent meetings with this management team during the course of the project.
The work involves responsibility for ensuring that sponsor relations continue smoothly. You also have responsibility for ensuring invoices are coded and paid on time.
It falls within your area of responsibility to ensure that project members comply with the university's rules and policies and maintain good relations with external parties.
You are also responsible for ensuring that all necessary competition documentation is prepared and submitted on time.
You will become part of the department and are expected to participate in meetings and maintain contact with both university staff and students in the project.
To contribute to a good work environment and development of activities, we would like you to be present and contribute to the daily work and community, according to the arrangement agreed with the study director and based on the scope of the employment.
Eligibility Requirements
Only those admitted to education at basic or advanced level may be employed as a student assistant (HF 5 ch §10). You must be admitted to one of the degree programs in mechanical engineering at Karlstad University and have completed at least four terms, and have remaining study time until graduation of at least the equivalent length of the employment.
Assessment Criteria
It is of particular importance that you have good academic results. We also place special emphasis on strong ability to collaborate, as well as the ability to independently drive and complete assigned tasks within the set timeframe. It is of great importance that you have good verbal and written proficiency in both Swedish and English, good administrative ability and that you have a commitment to the work.
Terms
The employment is fixed-term and covers 5-10% of full-time. Work may be scheduled flexibly over time and is arranged by agreement. Work duties are conducted mainly on-site at Karlstad University. The employment is fixed-term for the fall term 2026, with a start date of 2026-08-10 or by agreement, but no later than 2027-08-31. Extension may be possible. The salary for student assistant positions follows the local collective agreement with a fixed monthly salary.
