The Polar Research Secretariat is a government agency that promotes and coordinates Swedish polar research. The agency is responsible for long-term planning of research and research infrastructure, and for organizing and conducting research expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctica. The agency's overarching goal is to contribute to increased international impact of Swedish polar research through collaboration, high-quality research infrastructure, and international partnerships, as well as promote increased understanding and improved protection of the environment. Operations include Abisko Scientific Research Station, Kristineberg Marine Research Station, the research icebreaker Oden, and the Swedish research stations Wasa and Svea in Antarctica. The Polar Research Secretariat has approximately 50 employees and is located in Luleå, Abisko, Helsingborg, and Fiskebäckskil. The position is located at the Land-Based Research Support Unit at Abisko Scientific Research Station. The unit consists of twelve employees and is led by a unit manager. You will work closely with your colleagues and be an important part of creating good conditions for research, education, and daily operations. About the Unit The Land-Based Research Support Unit is responsible for promoting and coordinating land-based polar research and supporting research projects in the field. A central part of the unit's activities is the operation and development of Abisko Scientific Research Station, which is an internationally leading research platform in the Arctic. The unit provides support to researchers through accommodation and field lodging, support for fieldwork, laboratories, environmental monitoring and data management, and participates in and coordinates national and international research infrastructures. The unit is also responsible for planning and conducting expeditions to Antarctica. Job Duties The job duties are varied and include: providing service to researchers, students, and other guests by providing information and managing keys handling incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries responding to and monitoring email and telephone calls administering applications and bookings of accommodation, facilities, laboratories, and equipment supervising laboratories, experimental gardens, equipment, and chemical cabinets performing certain facility maintenance in laboratory environments and ensuring that facilities and equipment are clean and in order for the next user cleaning the research station's spaces. We are looking for someone who has: upper secondary education or other education that the employer considers relevant, or alternatively experience that the employer considers equivalent experience in administrative work experience in service work with many points of contact, such as customer or guest service good computer skills and experience working in administrative IT systems good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English orally and in writing a B-category driving license. It is meritorious if you have: experience in facility maintenance where order and hygiene were an important part of the work experience working in a laboratory environment where order and safety procedures were an important part of the work experience with booking or case management systems, particularly Visbook experience providing service to international guests or users. You work in a structured manner, take responsibility for your tasks, and have a good ability to plan and prioritize when workload varies. Since the work involves many points of contact, you have good collaboration skills and enjoy providing support to different target groups. Other Information The position is full-time and permanent with the earliest possible start date. The employment begins with a six-month probationary period.
